UC Santa Cruz is recruiting for a CARE (Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education) Prevention Education Coordinator. The Coordinator will develop and implement peer education programs to address interpersonal violence including the supervision and training of peer educators and is responsible for the facilitation of universal prevention programming on the UCSC campus as described.
This position is expected to work primarily at the central campus location during the 2022-2023 academic year, with possibility of some hybrid remote work arrangements. The employee shall be available in a full-time capacity during assigned telecommuting work hours (specific hours to be discussed with supervisor). While telecommuting/remote working, the employee is responsible for ensuring a worksite environment suitable for accomplishing their regular job duties during scheduled hours of work and, if applicable, arranging for dependent care just as they would if they were working at the regular UCSC worksite.

UC Santa Cruz (UCSC) Student Health and Wellness (SHW) is a full-service medical facility offering clinical, educational, and psychological support to UCSC students. SHW is deeply committed to ensuring affordable, well-integrated, multidisciplinary healthcare that effectively supports the university's diverse campus communities, through equitable access and culturally competent, high-quality programs and services.
The Primary Care Program includes primary care and same-day care, with the support of on-site radiology, a COLA-accredited high complexity clinical laboratory and campus pharmacy. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) supports UCSC students to maintain or improve their general well-being by providing a broad range of counseling, psychiatric services, consultation and outreach services and programs.
Additional departments include Student Health Outreach and Promotion (SHOP), home of the Condom Co-op; CARE (Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education) the advocacy and prevention education office that supports survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/domestic violence; and Student Insurance Programs. SHW employs approximately 120 staff including physicians, psychiatrists, case managers, lab scientists, pharmacists, nurses, radiologists, and many other clinical and administrative staff.
Student Health and Wellness welcomes staff with interest and experience in working with students with a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and gender identities.
CARE supports survivors of sexual assault, stalking, and dating/domestic violence, as well as their significant others and allies. CARE also promotes a sex-positive consent culture on campus through programming, training, workshops and other outreach to students, staff and faculty.
Under the direction of the CARE Director, the Prevention Education Coordinator provides prevention education and intervention on interpersonal violence issues. The Coordinator will lead prevention efforts on the UCSC campus addressing interpersonal violence (sexual assault, relationship violence and stalking). These duties include education and awareness training for faculty, staff and students, as well as outreach, program evaluation and collaboration with campus and community partners. A core responsibility of this position is to develop and implement a peer education program to address interpersonal violence. The Coordinator will supervise and train peer educators to present various interpersonal violence prevention related workshops. The CARE Prevention Education Coordinator may provide one-on-one sexual assault crisis counseling to survivors as well as providing appropriate resources and referrals.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary:$67,400 - $78,000/ Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary above the posted range. JOB DUTIES
65% - Education and Outreach
Design, implement and assess educational programs that prevent sexual violence from occurring within the UC Santa Cruz community.
Design and facilitate dynamic and engaging content on effective violence prevention and intervention strategies for students, staff and faculty including workshops, lectures, trainings, facilitated conversations, social media campaigns, etc.
Using an intersectional and collaborative approach, present targeted prevention strategies to identified risk populations including LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities, students of color, athletes, Greek Organization members and other under-served populations.
Coordinate the facilitation of universal prevention programming for all students during orientation.
Formally and informally assess the developmental, social and environmental issues, problems, needs and assets at the University related to sexual assault and sexual violence prevention and intervention.
Organize, plan, implement and evaluate policies, programs and services to strengthen university and community capacity to effectively address sexual assault related issues, including sexual health and relationship violence/healthy relationships in order to improve student health and resiliency.
Assist in the development of systems and evaluation tools to measure effectiveness of offered programs and services.
Support the coordination of annual events such as Take Back the Night, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, etc.
Support outreach strategies that ensure CARE is a recognized and accessible resource to all students, staff and faculty.
Campus Expertise and Consultation:
Serve and/or provide leadership on university/community coalitions addressing sexual assault and sexual violence related issues.
Train campus departments on institutional policy and issues regarding gender violence and compliance with VAWA, Clery and UC policy.
Regularly advise campus administrators on the implementation of policies and procedures regarding gender-based violence and support campus compliance.
Support campus compliance with relevant federal, state, campus and system-wide policies and legislation.
Consult with academic departments on general issues of gender-based violence.
Serve as a campus expert regarding all campus and community services available to survivors, and of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, legal and social realities connected to gender-based violence.
Collaborate with the UC Santa Cruz Title IX office on training needs, including regular participation in training and ensuring compliance with the standards set by University of California system for response to sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking.
Collaborate, communicate with, and advise faculty, administrators, law enforcement and off-campus agencies in crisis situations related to sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking.
25% - Administration and Student Supervision
Supervise and train student interns and peer educators to present sexual assault and sexual violence prevention workshops, including the mandatory new student orientation program.
Support student interns with ongoing outreach strategies including social media, newsletter and tabling.
Train and supervise appropriate individuals (e.g., student volunteers, college residential staff and community members) as resource persons for specific events including: Denim Day, Take Back The Night, awareness month activities, etc.
Create quarterly reports for sexual assault and sexual violence prevention related initiatives including measurable goals and objectives and program evaluation.
Handle logistics for events, workshops and outreach for CARE, including room reservations, requests for funding, etc.
Identify additional sources of funding support and develop proposals as needed.
Participate in CARE long range planning.
10% - Crisis Intervention and Advocacy Support
Promote communication and maintain good working relationships between sexual assault and sexual violence prevention education and related campus programs, including Title IX, Student Conduct, Respondent Services, the police department and the colleges.
Work collaboratively with the Student Health and Wellness (SHW) clinicians and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) to mutually assist students.
Refer survivors to appropriate community agencies as needed.
Serve as a resource person for faculty and staff. Inform campus community about sexual violence prevention related services available through CARE and other community agencies, and provide information and presentations as requested.
Collaborate with community agencies and participate in community, campus and student affairs initiatives, as requested.
Respond to requests for interpersonal violence consultations from individuals and groups on campus and in the community.
Maintain liaison with community programs and with other college and university programs with the aim of improving communication and establishing positive working relationships with community resources.
Provide case management services, including accommodations oversight, for survivors of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in health education, public health, social work, counseling or a related field OR equivalent professional work experience.
Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and assessing educational programs for adult learners
Excellent public speaking and facilitation skills with both large and small groups
Training and/or experience in teaching topics of sexual violence prevention and intervention
Demonstrated understanding of developmental and other issues impacting college/university students
Experience implementing and providing effective, health promotion or violence prevention programs for a student-aged population
Thorough understanding of applying social justice and intersectional fundamentals to sexual violence prevention
Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to independently prioritize, change focus, and complete work under multiple, competing deadlines with frequent interruptions
Excellent verbal communication skills with demonstrated effectiveness in interacting with students, staff, and faculty of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds
Excellent written communication skills
