The Assistant Dean will implement a shared vision for managing all operations related to student conduct, including developing, implementing, and interpreting policies governing students under the University's Code of Student Conduct; facilitating fair and equitable conduct hearings; partnering with the Student Conduct Board for alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct and the Academic Honor Code; and, for implementing best practices related to procedures for addressing violations and educating students about their choices.

The Assistant Dean will serve as the deputy to the Dean of Administrative Advising and Student Conduct on matters related to students' rights and responsibilities, as well as for developing and implementing processes autonomously to support community standards and student conduct. Additional responsibilities include assessing, and assisting in the training for residential life personnel and other colleagues in the administration of the Colgate Code of Student Conduct.
Accountabilities:
Manage the resolution of alleged violations involving students related to community standards, University policy, and local, state, and federal law; incorporate the philosophy of promoting student development while upholding University conduct standards; utilize national trends related to rights and responsibilities, restorative justice, and conflict management/mediation.
Participate and engage in holistic and comprehensive case management review related to student conduct.
Collaborate in establishing and maintaining students' rights and responsibilities in order to provide safety and well-being of the University environment, including assisting students with interpreting and understanding University policies and procedures; holding students accountable to established community standards and behavioral expectations; and managing and responding to questions and concerns from students, parents, faculty and staff.
Collaborate with campus partners to develop and implement programming and educational initiatives related to responsibility, accountability, and fostering a sense of community.
Design, implement, and evaluate educational sanctioning for students found in violation of the Code of Student Conduct.
Coordinate conduct cases, including but not limited to, reviewing Maxient/Campus Safety reports, creating (or overseeing the creation of) charge letters, assigning cases to appropriate staff members, following up with sanction letters/monitoring sanction completion, and closing cases.
Manage the resolution of alleged violations involving students related to community standards, University policy, and local, state, and federal law; incorporate the philosophy of promoting student development while upholding University conduct standards; utilize national trends related to rights and responsibilities, restorative justice, and conflict management/mediation.
Assist with assessment of conduct processes, including the evaluation of processes and regulations to ensure fair and equitable processes, engaging in systematic planning by tracking trends, generating and analyzing reports, and preparing key performance indicators/metrics.
Effectively utilize conduct and case management software, including compiling regular reports on conduct-related data (e.g. Maxient).
Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary, non-clinical decision-making team for students of concern as part of the University's behavioral intervention team.
Serve as a member of the dean on-call rotation.
Collaborate with the Department of Campus Safety and local, state, and federal enforcement agencies.
This position has been designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), in accordance with the federal statutory requirements of the Jeanne Clery Act. CSAs are required to and responsible for reporting allegations of crimes they receive from students and employees to the Campus Safety Department.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of college/university student conduct codes including the application of practices related to student conduct; knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Clery Act, Title IX, and other applicable federal/state guidelines;
Experience in administration of student conduct;
In-depth knowledge of student development theory;
Experience within a college residential environment;
Demonstrated ability to work independently; and
Ability to stay calm and function well in a high-paced office environment.
Education:
Master's degree in a related field and two years of related experience or a Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience.
