Position Details:
Summary of Duties:
The incumbent provides academic advisement for prospective and current graduate students within the School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering (MME), and administrative support to the Associate Director for Graduate Studies, collaborating with that person regarding policy decisions and assisting with data acquisition and analysis. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing advanced-level advising in the areas of academic planning for graduate students in MME; implementing systems and methods for maintaining student records; tracking student progress toward degree completion; interpreting degree, School, College, Graduate School, and University requirements, policies, and procedures; making updates to graduate student resources as needed to reflect current information; developing and participating in student workshops, orientations, and recruitment activities; functioning as a liaison with MME faculty and students, supervisors, and internal and external constituents on all issues regarding the Graduate Program; provide assistance in developing unit policies, procedures, and methodologies; coordinate and manage the MSE Graduate Seminar series; and coordinate space allocation with the MME Space Committee chair.
Required Qualifications:
Positions require a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment and a diverse student population.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in related field.
Experience providing student services and advising in a higher education institution.
Experience working with diverse faculty, students and staff.
Understanding of and ability to apply WSU policies and procedures as related to student records and graduate program requirements.
Experience working with and maintaining student records.
Demonstrated public speaking skills including experience conducting presentations.

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
