The Associate Director of Multicultural Affairs reports directly to the Associate Dean of Multicultural Affairs. Primary responsibilities include planning, overseeing, implementing, and evaluating the diversity education area of Multicultural Affairs (MA); development and management of office-wide programming; student organization advisement;. and individual support to students in their social, leadership, and identity development With the Associate Dean of Multicultural Affairs, the incumbent contributes to community education and supportive spaces following bias incidents that may impact undergraduate students.
Provide management and leadership for the Identity and Inclusion Series, a set of interactive workshops that build skills and competencies and facilitate socially conscious and just communities. Oversee development, writing, facilitation, and assessment of original diversity education curricula for MA workshops and trainings. Coordinate progressive and cumulative learning opportunities for undergraduate students focusing on identity, active allyship, and social responsibility.
Oversee broad campus identity education opportunities, including by-request trainings and workshops. Support the coordination and execution of professional development related to diversity education and trainings for Undergraduate Student Life and other student-facing professional staff to better support students in Columbia College and Columbia Engineering. Responsibilities include implementing consistent diversity facilitation training and train-the-trainer processes for diversity facilitators; facilitating open and office-specific sessions for staff; and sharing of relevant best practices for supporting various student communities, particularly those who have been underrepresented and/or underserved.
Coordinate, implement, and assess intercultural/ intergroup programs that focus on skill building, empathy building, and dialogue across identities. Select and advise student coordinators and peer facilitators for these programs. Develop and work with student leaders to facilitate interpersonal connections and dialogue-based spaces focusing on disability justice, power and privilege dynamics on campus, and allyship.
In coordination with all MA staff, develop, implement, and assess MA-wide initiatives and programs, which may include campus awareness campaigns across social media platforms, broad campus education, student wellness initiatives, student outings, peer facilitation programs, and community building projects.
Advise identity-based student organizations; develop strong advisory relationships with advisees. Apply student and leadership development theories to inform advisement practices. Inform students of University policies and procedures, train students in event planning and management, and contribute to critical decision-making. Help organizations with budgets, contracts, and evening/ weekend event coverage and advisement when needed. Facilitate inter-organization communication and collaboration. Initiate and plan community building programs and meetings for constituencies represented in assigned advisement portfolio.
Provide individual support to students and groups in their social, leadership, and identity development, including advising and referral, as appropriate, in response to campus bias incidents. Assist the Associate Dean with the coordination and implementation of gathering spaces and campus education projects following incidents.
Serve on cross-functional Undergraduate Student Life (USL) and campus work teams. Contribute to programs and services that further the missions of MA and USL. Maintain relationships and effectively collaborate with University partners on campus initiatives.

Bachelor???s degree or equivalent related experience required.
A minimum of three years of related experience in student affairs essential;
Strong knowledge of multicultural and social justice theories, student development theories, identity development theories, and/or community building required.
Excellent intercultural communication and facilitation skills as well as experience working with diverse student populations required.

Masters in Student Personnel Administration or related field preferred.
Experience working in an urban setting preferred.
Strong experience with social media and graphic design is preferred.
