The School of Engineering at SIUE is seeking qualified candidates to fill several full-time Academic Advisor (I or II) vacancies. The SIUE School of Engineering offers a comprehensive collection of professionally accredited engineering programs. Engineering Student Services provides academic advising, student success support and resources for all declared engineering undergraduates in the School of Engineering.
The Academic Advisors will guide students to the successful achievement of their academic goals at the School of Engineering and the University. The selected candidate will meet with current and prospective students and families to provide accurate, current curricular information on undergraduate programs. This position will assist assigned students with program changes (class drops/additions and major changes), short-term and long-term academic program planning and career plans, and refer students to other support services/units on campus when needed. The Academic Advisor will also present information about the School of Engineering at recruitment and retention activities such as high school and community college visits, career fairs, community college conferences, Engineering Explore Day, Transfer Visit Days, and SIUE Previews.
Additionally, the Advisors will assist with recruitment and retention efforts for undergraduate programs within the School of Engineering and perform administrative tasks which support the advising duties and the progression of the students toward graduation.
The professional responsibilities of this position may necessitate evening hours and occasional weekend hours. The Academic Advisor may be assigned additional duties that support the School’s mission and goals. This is a posting for an Academic Advisor I, but candidates may be considered at the Academic Advisor II level based on advising experience. -Master's degree, preferably in higher education or a related field.
-Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills are necessary. -Previous experience in advisement and student counseling and knowledge of University policies and procedures are preferred. -Familiarity with multicultural, cognitive, social and other developmental concepts are desirable.
