The Associate Director of Strategic Recruitment and Outreach provides leadership and management for creating and executing a strategic recruitment plan to increase and maintain a diverse group of incoming new CSE undergraduate students. The position is responsible for defining recruiting strategies and creating events and action steps to activate recruiting strategies. Additionally, the Associate Director will work closely with strategic University and collegiate partners, such as CSE academic departments, Office of Admissions, and CSE Communications and Marketing to collaborate and align recruitment goals. This position will oversee three areas within CSE Student Services, including three staff members: recruitment, youth programs, and scholarship management. The position works closely with all areas of CSE Student Services and reports to the Assistant Dean.
Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions Strategy (40%)
Create and lead an annual comprehensive recruitment strategy to attract a diverse group of new first year and transfer students to CSE by integrating outreach initiatives, recruitment programs, communication and marketing efforts, and scholarship awarding processes
Serve as key liaison to the Office of Admissions, building collaborative relationships and recruitment strategies
Collaborate with CSE Communications and the Office of Admissions on key program differentiators and modify existing recruiting messages as necessary
Assist the Assistant Dean and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs on the development and adjustment of undergraduate enrollment goals and the recruitment plans to achieve those goals
Partner with CSE Office of Marketing and Communications on specific and targeted recruitment communications strategies, such as mailings, email campaigns, viewbooks, etc.
Analyze admission data to determine effectiveness of recruitment strategies and potential future markets for recruitment
Represent CSE on the Undergraduate Collegiate Admissions Committee
Create and coordinate specific recruitment events for specific and special populations of students
Co-Chair the CSE Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions Advisory Council (URAAC) and serve as the point person for 13 academic departments as they create their departmental recruitment strategies, goals, and objectives for the 20 undergraduate majors
Manage the evaluation of all recruiting activities, report metrics to Assistant Dean and Associate Dean.
Community Outreach and Engagement (20%)
Provide oversight to the youth outreach programming by determining areas for community engagement and strategic high school partnerships, specifically through youth programs such as Rooted in STEM, Discover STEM, and Eureka!
Determine ways to connect youth outreach programming initiatives into the overall recruitment strategy
Cultivate new and manage ongoing strategic community partnerships to help promote youth engagement with CSE
Partner with the CSE Student Engagement and DEI office to strategically develop outreach programs specifically for youth from marginalized and underrepresented communities
Staff Leadership and Supervision (20%)
Supervise and provide developmental management to the Youth Programs Coordinator (1 FTE), Scholarship Coordinator (.75 FTE) and provide work direction to the CSE Freshman Admissions Counselor
Assess and provide feedback on staffing models that provide effective support to successfully implement a comprehensive recruitment strategy
Collaborate with the CSE Freshman Admissions Counselor on building, sustaining, and managing a robust CSE Student Ambassador program to help support recruitment efforts
Scholarship Process Oversight (10%)
Partner with External Relations and Corporate Relations on the management of scholarships between benefactor and student recipient
Assist Assistant Dean with overall scholarship projections
Create reports on scholarship yield rates to analyze effectiveness of award amounts
Represent CSE on the Institutional Emergency Grants Committee
Instruction, Professional Development, & Service (10%)
Teach one section of the College’s required first year course, CSE 1001
Attend CSE 1001 training sessions, hold weekly office hours and supervise one undergraduate teaching assistant.
Engage actively with diversity, equity, and inclusion work, training, certificates, and other opportunities through the Office of Equity and Diversity and the CSE D&I Alliance
Serve on Student Services, College, and University-wide committees as requested or needed.
Participate in College recruitment, outreach, orientation and transition programs, career services, student engagement, and commencement events.
Bachelor degree with at least six years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with at least four years of relevant experience
Ability to build productive relationships with prospective students, parents, staff, faculty and key external stakeholders.
Capacity for creative problem solving, planning and forecasting, strategic goal setting and organizational leadership.
Ability to function in a fast-paced environment and work under tight deadlines in a collaborative, team-focused environment.
Strong experience in event creation, development, and implementation
Familiarity and experience with college recruitment planning and execution
Commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion
Demonstrated ability to present in front of large and small groups.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Familiarity with the University of Minnesota.
Experience creating and executing marketing and communication strategies - including electronic, print, web, and social media
Outstanding time management skills with the ability to balance many job functions and competing demands with grace and sensitivity.
Training or evidence of experience in web, social media and media relations.
