Niagara County Community College has is seeking a part time Counselor to work in our college's Wellness Center reporting to the Supervisor of College Nursing Services/Wellness Center.
This positions is responsible for providing confidential counseling services to students in need and providing campus outreach/programming in the area of personal wellness with emphasis on mental health issues and education. The Counselor serves as the primary mental health crisis management response professional, acts as the lead professional on mental health evaluation of students, and provides support and referral to area agencies.
Niagara County Community College is doing its part to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus within our work environment and requiring that all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Therefore, the candidate that is selected for hire of the position must show proof of their vaccination status to the Human Resources office after an offer of employment is accepted. Typical Work Activities:
Provide confidential personal counseling services for a diverse student population.
Act as lead campus staff to respond to students demonstrating mental health crisis on campus.
Evaluate student needs and develop educational programming/outreach related to relevant mental health issues.
Foster partnerships with Community Mental Health agencies and refer students as appropriate
Work collaboratively with college personnel including Security, Vice President of Student Services, and Campus Housing to address student concerns
Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of College Nursing Services/Wellness Center
Ability to relate to a diverse student population. Must be able to relate to senior college officials; must be able to speak in front of groups; must be able to prepare written reports; must be able to operate computers; must be able to listen to and interact with students. Good knowledge of the principles, methods, procedures and practices of social work, of the functioning community mental health programs and facilities and the scope of services rendered, and of community resources and how to use them effectively with others; ability to perform mental hygiene work effectively; ability to analyze and evaluate reports and make sound decisions; ability to prepare reports; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; tact and courtesy; sound professional judgement; integrity; initiative; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Master's Degree in Social work or Counseling or related area.
Must be licensed in State of New York (LMSW or LMHC).
