We offer group and individual advising, as well as experiential opportunities that complement all students’ learning and experiences during their time at Oberlin. Students are interested in business, consulting and finance careers, and this position will provide career development and advising in this important career field.
The Career Development Center seeks an individual to serve as Assistant/Associate Director for Career Readiness. This position will positively contribute to the Center’s efforts of helping students acquire skills and learn strategies that are critical for career readiness and professional development. We seek a candidate who has demonstrated experience and skills in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion and is an experienced advisor who can creatively empower students and recent alumni to navigate the job search process, build professional networks, make a successful transition to the workplace, and manage their early careers.
The ideal candidate will have the knowledge and experience to lead our Business, Consulting & Finance Career Communities. This is a full-time 12-month, continuing, professional contract position reporting to the Executive Director of the Career Development Center.
The Assistant/Associate Director for Career Readiness will be responsible for the following:
Career Advising/Coaching: Provide one-on-one and small group career advising that supports students’ values and career exploration and enhances their capacity to successfully launch into their careers (or graduate/professional school) after Oberlin; Support the development and execution of an effective job-search process for both internships and post-graduation jobs.
Career Education Programming: Collaborate with team members in the Career Development Center, Office of Undergraduate Research, Director of Entrepreneurship, and other campus partners to develop and implement career education programs that support students ’ career readiness, including, but not limited to, the Career Communities Program, Junior Practicum, and Sophomore Practicum Program.
Career Communities Leadership: Lead and coordinate the Business, Consulting & Finance Career Communities; Provide advising and expertise to students, alumni, and campus constituents in these assigned career area(s).
Campus Outreach: Support campus outreach efforts and present career-related educational programming and workshops to students in classroom settings (e.g., First-Year Seminars, etc.) and for various campus groups and student organizations.
Employer, Alumni, and Parent Engagement: Recruit and cultivate relationships with employers, alumni, parents, and community partners to engage with Oberlin students for career and experiential learning opportunities (e.g., internships, Winter Term projects, Career Treks, etc.)
Overall: Support any additional Career Development Center programs as needed throughout the year; Serve as Career Development Center representative on various committees and task forces based on assignment and interest.

Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree in counseling, student personnel, or business-related discipline preferred
At least one year of professional experience providing advising or counseling in a college or university setting is required; three to five years of experience advising diverse groups of college students and alumni preferred
Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and experience with topics directly related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Demonstrated skills in engaging a diverse student population utilizing a student development models and methods
Excellent written and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the College and external constituents, especially with students
Comfortable working with computer technology and online web-based services
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently when necessary; well-organized and detail-oriented oriented
Demonstrated ability to personally engage with multiple constituencies in a variety of situations and contexts
Well-developed skills of team collaboration, coalition building, and operation in interdisciplinary working groups required
Strong leadership and relationship-building skills; experience in developing relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, international origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and/or other aspects of human diversity
Capacity to create a diverse and inclusive environment and provide equitable and inclusive services to the Oberlin College community
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team to proactively identify opportunities and challenges and propose solutions
Ability to respond to common inquiries or concerns from students, college stakeholders, or regulatory agencies
Ability to work in a multiethnic and multicultural environment with students, faculty, and staff Some extended hours including evenings and weekends will be required.
Experience using digital career platforms including Handshake and Wisr preferred; skilled in using LinkedIn effectively.
