The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is the home for Persistence and Achievement (CAPA), the newly created Institute for Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Inclusion (REGI), the Center for Neurodiversity, and DEI at the School of Osteopathic Medicine. The Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is shared with the Division of Academic Affairs.

Mission of the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)
The Division of DEI at Rowan University leads and supports initiatives that promote diversity, equity and inclusion by:
Developing and sustaining meaningful partnerships with internal and external constituents that result in a more diverse and inclusive community;
Utilizing data to inform continuous improvement efforts and innovation; and
Implementing university-wide culturally responsive and relevant programming that result in equitable educational opportunities for students and an affirming culture and climate
The Assistant Director is responsible for providing leadership, direction and oversight of the Gender and Sexuality Center, which provides opportunities for all members of the Rowan University community to explore, organize, and promote learning around issues of gender and sexuality. The Assistant Director ensures the center facilitates a greater responsiveness to the needs of women and the LGBTQIA+ communities through programming, education, outreach, and advocacy. The Assistant Director engages with partners within and external to the University, and cultivates a co-curricular experiential learning environment for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, and Allied (LGBTQIAA+) students.
The Assistant Director will serve on the leadership team with the Director and Assistant Directors of SJICR; and assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs to promote a campus climate that is inclusive and supportive of a diverse student population. The Assistant Director will administer assigned budgets and oversee expenditures for programs and operations as determined by the Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Gender and Sexuality Center
Lead and manage the operations of the Gender and Sexuality Center.
Establish and convene an advisory board for the Gender and Sexuality Center.
Guide long-term development and programming of the Gender and Sexuality Center and ensure its operations are in line with the SJICR and the university’s commitment to provide educational resources for and about the LGBTQIA+ community, to increase awareness, identify issues and assets, and strengthen the LGBTQIA+ campus community.
Develops and delivers educational workshops such as Safe Zone training, programs and conferences on women, gender, and related issues for the University community
Serves as an advocate and resource on women's issues, cultural pluralism, and diversity
Engage students, staff, and faculty and off-campus LGBTQIA+ communities through networking and collaborating on programs and participation in events.
Collaborate and provide guidance on university policies, practices and appropriate educational opportunities to ensure the campus effectively serves the needs of LGBTQIA+ students, staff and faculty
Advocate for, and advise LGBTQIA+ students/ affiliated organizations of their rights and privacy
Develop and implement educational opportunities for students, staff and faculty to educate and raise awareness of issues and assets relevant to LGBTQIA+ communities.
In collaboration with the leadership team, provide anti-racist, equity-minded leadership in the Office of Social Justice, Inclusion & Conflict Resolution to develop and assess programs that will assist students with identity development, leadership, and global citizenship.
Develop, demonstrate, and promote awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful campus community.
Assist with cultivating and providing cultural representation throughout SJICR, ensuring robust programming, diverse curriculum, and inclusive spaces for students served.
Assist with coaching and leading the graduate students/paraprofessionals in the office of SJICR.
Assist in the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategies, social media and printed materials to ensure visibility of programs, resources and services to expand engagement with students, staff, and faculty.
Create and present educational programs and educational workshops that promote an understanding of and appreciation for the principles of equity and inclusion among Rowan’s students, staff and faculty.
Monitor budget allocations and annual expenditures as directed by the SJICR Director.
Collaborate with academic units to develop curricular and co-curricular opportunities that align with the mission of SJICR.
Assess and analyze effectiveness and impact of programs and services to determine necessary program modifications.
Develop partnerships with campus, community and affiliate organizations that support students and the mission of the programs, department and division.
Identify and assist in raising external resources to support SJICR initiatives (e.g. grants, gifts).
Plan, assign and review work to staff to ensure that group objectives are met.
Work evenings, weekends and other times as required.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Inclusive Campus Culture Initiatives
Build campus-wide partnerships that support student engagement in experiential education initiatives which promote identity development, leadership, and global citizenship through the lens of social justice.
Support strategies to promote recruitment, retention, and graduation of underrepresented and underserved students.
Promote an understanding of the supports and systems that are most effective in helping students that are underrepresented, underserved, or who experience systemic and culturally based forms of bias and prejudice to succeed in higher education.
Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs, Public Administration, or a related discipline.
Three (3) years of professional related and progressively responsible experience in work related to diversity, social justice and inclusion in the college/university environment
Direct experience planning and coordinating programs serving populations of students that are underrepresented, underserved, or who experience systemic and culturally based forms of bias and prejudice
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing educational programs, workshops and trainings related to LGBTQIA+, gender and ally communities.
Experience with gender and sexuality programs and fundraising or with grant writing preferred.
A clear record of accomplished collaborative involvement with the campus, the community, office staff and management is desired. Ability to maintain appropriate professional confidentiality. Ability to work in a stressful environment and with great attention to detail.
Strong analytical, and organization skills; excellent interpersonal, cultural/intercultural, social justice theory & practices, and community relations skills; excellent supervision, presentation, teaching, and training skills; strong budgeting and financial planning/analysis skills; strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively and interact tactfully with all levels of university students, staff, faculty, and trustees; read, analyze, and interpret documents, budgets and contracts; and respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, conduct assessment of needs and program effectiveness, and apply data and analysis skills to the formulation of proposals and solutions.
Proficient in use of technology to carry out electronic communication and develop both printed and electronic documents using computers and the Internet. Experience with Windows or Macintosh system software, Microsoft Office (Excel, Microsoft Word, Power Point, Access), Outlook and other email software, Canva, and Banner (preferred) as well as fluency in social media (Instagram & Facebook). Understanding of relational database systems and ability to oversee maintenance of technology assets.
