The Morris University Center at SIUE is seeking hands-on, high-energy individuals to fill a full-time Events Expert position. The Events Expert is an administrative post within the Morris University Center that is responsible for working with clients through all aspects of event planning and coordination. Using their expertise in space utilization and event related technologies, the Events Expert ensures all clients’ needs are met during the event planning process and their event is a success. The Events Expert doesn’t sit behind a desk all day, but is out and about in the building, providing great customer service experiences for those visiting the building. An Event Expert is truly an expert in all things related to hosting a meeting or event. They quickly absorb details about our meeting spaces, technology offerings, and catering menus and is able to tell a customer, what they need to help them realize their event. The Event Expert asks detail-oriented questions of our event hosts and can help a customer see their event even before it happens.
The selected candidate will assist clients from venue selection, detail planning, event coordination, and day of set-up and execution of events. Duties throughout this process will include: problem-solving event specific related issues, providing technical advice for equipment needs, and helping determine catering needs for events hosted in the Meridian Ballroom, Goshen Lounge, Conference Center, and all other event spaces. This position will provide event lighting and sound system equipment support including set-up and operation as well as inventory management, maintenance, and repair of various technical equipment pieces (microphones, projectors, speakers, etc.). The Events Expert is in tune with the industry and will also recommend and research the need for new equipment as required to meet or exceed current industry trends. Additionally, the Events Expert will assist in hiring, supervising, and assessing required event student workers and assuring all staff are trained in customer service and have ability to problem solve as needed for effective event execution.

Established in 1967, the Morris University Center (MUC) provides a place where students could find social, recreational, cultural, and educational activities and events beyond academics. Today, the MUC, the Student Success Center (SSC), and University Event Services host hundreds of events and activities promoting student and community engagement at SIUE.
This position is a highly visible role representing the Morris University Center, Event Services, and the University. The Events Expert will work with all levels of administration, guests, and students, and is expected to provide exceptional professional and courteous service and guidance at all times. Applicants must be able to work successfully with diverse populations. Routine hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. However, due to the professional needs of this role, these hours will vary weekly, and may include frequent evening and weekend shifts, based on the schedule of events.
