Summary of Duties:
The Student Services Coordinator/ Advisor 2 is a Pre-Health Specialist. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordinating an all-inclusive program that provides support for pre-health students, (pre-physical therapy and pre-occupational therapy or pre-medicine and pre-dental depending on skill set and qualifications), regardless of academic major. In collaboration with departmental academic advisors, they instruct, assist, and advice students based on their career choice, course choice, and academic major to develop an application plan for professional schools. They maintain effective working relationships with faculty and staff in degree programs at WSU, as well as admissions offices for professional schools at WSU and at other institutions with professional programs related to health care. They provide workshops, personal statement/application reviews, instructional modules, and program assessment.
In addition, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, program development to enhance student benefit and satisfaction from the Health Professions Student Center (HPSC) and the development of a personalized career path. Help collect data and build evidence-based program and service practices. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, leading others and/or performing senior level professional duties in developing, coordinating, and implementing student service programs and initiatives, including recruitment and retention in pre-health and representing the Health Professions Student Center at University functions. Additional duties may be assigned by the director of the Health Professions Student Center as deemed necessary for the benefit of the students or the Center.
Pre-Health specialists serve current students proactively to meet and exceed retention goals. Establish and/or participate in targeted recruitment efforts. Create and distribute marketing and educational resources, and promotional materials for student recruitment and retention programs; provide information to prospective and current health sciences students; analyze recruitment and retention trends; develop recruitment and retention goals and strategies; and prepare reports. Responsibilities may include occasionally working evenings and weekends, and travel.
Positions require a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Experience working directly with students/student services.
Evidence of effective communication skills.
Required to maintain a valid driver's license.
Applicant must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Preference given to science or health care advanced degree.
Prefer experience with recruitment and outreach.
Prefer experience collecting and managing data.
Prefer experience with statistical analysis.
Prefer experience with pre-health care field or health care fields.
