Job Description:
The Department of Campus Recreation provides a variety of programs, services and events, which strive to engage students and others in the St. Cloud State University community by attainment of healthy lifestyle behaviors that will carry forward throughout their lifespan. With recreation as a major theme for the University's strategic plan, the Coordinator of Competitive Sports is expected to provide opportunities that enhance student success, develop a comprehensive recreation program including intramurals, club sports and e sports. Incumbent must commit to continuous learning/improvement in the areas of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and cultural competence. Support NIRSA goals and objectives for student and professional development. Oversee the day-to-day operations of the intramural sports program including marketing, leagues scheduling, payroll, and human resource functions for student staff.
Coordinate all administrative aspects of competitive programs including: developing policies, procedures and sport specific rules related to competitive sports. Develop policy, program philosophy, and program delivery for e sports. Manage staffing for club sport practices and events. Responsible for planning, organizing, and evaluating all activities associated with the Intramural Sports Programs including several extramural tournaments. This includes the supervising and mentoring of student employees and scheduling leagues & tournaments. Develop an annual program/timeline for the Intramural Sports program, club, and e sports.
Responsible for recruitment, training, scheduling and evaluation of student staff including sports officials, scorekeepers, program assistants, graduate assistants, sport club officers. Provide on-site training and supervision of student staff. Organize, schedule, and lead bi-weekly Intramural Sports Supervisor meetings.
Ensure safety of participants in all areas of oversight. Assist with the assessment, evaluation, and mitigation of risk for competitive sports programs and facilities.
Maintain records of all league standings, sportsmanship, and participation rates for intramural sports. Manage IMLeagues and/or Fusion. Implement methods for assessing programs. Develop and execute assessment of programs and/or services for areas of responsibility including but not limited to setting and implementing goals, evaluating outcomes and ongoing enhancement.
Participate in assigned special events, training activities, and other programs in conjunction with campus partners such as Student Affairs. Serve on departmental and university committees. Serve as liaison Residence Halls, IFC, Pan-Hellenic, and Admissions Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population with those from various cultural backgrounds, specific needs, or limitations.
Other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Sports Management & Recreation or a related field and 1 year professional experience required.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Demonstrated experience within sports facility operations.
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to supervise student employees.
Ability to work as part of, and lead, a team that collaborates effectively with colleagues.
Evidence of demonstrated ability to work with persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.
Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyle choices.
American Red Cross CPR/AED/FA certification or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in in Sports Management & Recreation or a related field preferred.
Experience working in a collegiate/community recreation environment.
IM Leagues and Fusion understanding.
NIRSA understanding for academic and student professional development.
