Portland Community College is seeking two (2) Queer Resource Center (QRC) Coordinators who will each provide coordination and leadership for a specific campus resource center and college-wide administration of a broad range of activities that further the goals of the collective Queer Resource Centers, the goals of the Division of Student Belonging and Wellbeing, and the values of belonging, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. We are in the process of building a dynamic team of QRC professional staff who each report to the new Director of Queer Resource Centers and Community Resource Navigation & Connection. Portland Community College is the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, serving over 60,000 full-time and part-time students across 4 campuses, 10 centers, and online learning.
The Queer Resource Centers provide advocacy, education, leadership development, programming, community space, and retention services for students with marginalized genders and sexualities to create an inclusive and intersectional campus climate promoting gender justice, sexual liberation, and equity for all people. The Queer Resource Centers support queer, trans, and gender diverse student populations with an anti-racist and social justice lens. Our teams work with the many intersecting marginalized identities of our student communities and provide identity affirming and culturally responsive navigational resources for a successful collegiate career at PCC and beyond. These vibrant centers are core to the college's effort to advance educational equity.
The Coordinator researches and implements retention strategies, develops and grows programs, provides individualized support, and works to ensure the personal and academic success of queer, trans, and gender diverse students. The coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of a resource center at a specific PCC campus (Cascade, Rock Creek, Southeast, or Sylvania) and leads a team of student leaders in creating a welcoming and inclusive space featuring a variety of student engagement activities. In addition, each QRC Coordinator will provide college-wide service (across all campuses and centers) specializing in one of the following functional areas:
Training, Facilitation, and Curriculum Development (includes developing curriculum and providing ongoing maintenance of LGBTQIA2S+ cultural responsiveness training for PCC faculty and staff; lending facilitation and curriculum development expertise to student leader training; providing open educational events and workshops for the entire college community)
Large-Scale Programming, Promotion, and Marketing Design (includes lead coordination of college-wide QRC events like Rainbow Graduation, Pride, awareness days, etc.; coordinating marketing and setting design standards for QRC promotional materials; managing the website, social media, e-newsletter, and PantherHub)
Community Resource Navigation & Connection (includes establishing relationships with and creating awareness of community partners providing culturally specific and/or LGBTQIA2S+ friendly resources for queer & trans students related to physical and mental health, transition-related care, family support, food & housing insecurity, domestic violence, and legal services; providing infrastructure for effective referrals and resource navigation for QRCs; high school outreach)
Currently, these positions will be designated “on-site flex” working four days a week onsite and one day remote. The Coordinators will each have a primary campus location (TBD) and travel regularly across the PCC Service District. Candidate preference will be a factor in assigned primary location along with student and college needs. Please note that work modality and location may be adjusted with advance notice given at the supervisor’s discretion.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the Queer Resource Center to ensure the center is providing programs, events, and services that support student success and development. Recruits, hires, trains, and schedules student leaders. Directs and oversees the work of student and casual employees while providing ongoing leadership development and skill development opportunities.
Provides one-on-one advising, advocacy, and information to students seeking support through the Queer Resource Center. This includes referrals to PCC and community resources; basic needs support; responding to students in distress; and confidential advocacy related to gender-based violence and discrimination.
Mentors and works with student leaders to support, design, and implement programs, special events, and services that promote student success and development. Advises students on program planning methods and assists with problem-solving during all phases of an event. Collaborates with Accessible Education & Disability Resources to ensure events are accessible.
Trains and advises QRC student staff on sexual orientation and gender identity information and advocacy, responding to students in distress, basic needs support, Title IX compliance, healthy relationships, time management, goal setting, communication, leadership, and more.
Administers program budget(s); prepares cost estimates, budget recommendations, and makes and monitors budget expenditures.
Assesses student/campus community needs, identifies institutional equity gaps, and addresses barriers; makes recommendations on policy and procedures related to queer and trans student success; acts as a change agent.
Serves as a liaison on campus and district PCC committees and work groups including those related to Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in addition to community, regional, and national organizations that contribute to the goals of the resource center.
Contributes to or leads district-level initiatives as directed and frequently collaborates on college-wide QRC initiatives including but not limited to the Queer, Trans, & Gender Diverse Advocacy Steering & Action Group, Rainbow Graduation, and Pride; may lead committees or other PCC groups.
Collects, prepares, reviews, analyzes, and reports on a variety of complex information and data and implements changes to programming based on findings; makes recommendations for broader District-wide initiatives to further educational equity.
Uses a variety of office software including Google suite, Microsoft suite, Adobe Creative suite, Banner, Chrome River, Qualtrics, Zoom, and Canva.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience working with, supporting, and advocating for LGBTQIA2S+ students and students at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities.
Ability to provide identity-affirming, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed service and support; experience and training in responding sensitively and effectively to individuals in distress.
Demonstrated expertise in student development, student leadership, and student success theories, showing knowledge and application of culturally relevant research and practices. Familiarity with higher education knowledge, policies, and processes.
Experience training, overseeing, and mentoring student staff and promoting leadership development.
Demonstrated experience in inclusive and accessible campus programming and event planning. Ability to establish program outcomes and assessments with a student-centered, culturally responsive approach.
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate in a team-oriented environment with an awareness of how cultural background and privilege influence perceptions, values, and practices and how these perceptions, values, and practices shape one’s relationships with students and staff.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas: College Climate & Institutional Change; Training, Facilitation, and Curriculum Development; Large-Scale Event Planning, Promotion, and Marketing Design; Community Resource Navigation & Connection.

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Liberal Arts, Multicultural Studies, Women’s Studies, Gender Studies, Social Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Three years of experience in a diverse setting coordinating services or programs, to include one year of experience specific to the population served in the area of assignment.
