Supports the Associate and Assistant Deans in working with all students and student groups who bring diversity to the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine including dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, and other cultural factors.
Responsible for organizing the monthly Bowman Society Lecture Series, as well as supporting the Bowman Society Faculty Director in implementing other mentoring events and awards ceremonies associated with the Bowman Society.
Responsible for supporting diverse student community, including assisting in student affinity group organizations (such as SNMA, LMSA, Outpatient, APAMSA, MENA, etc.) and serving as a mentor and a guide to their programming, as well as troubleshooting issues and problems related to student life as they arise.
Provides support for UiM students who seek external awards and funding from such bodies as the AAMC, NMF, AMA, etc. to promote diversity in physician work force and combating health care inequities.
Collaborates with other key offices in the medical center and University, including the Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and GME staff, the Urban Health Initiative, Office of the Provost, and the University Dean of Students office.
Works closely with the Associate and Assistant Deans for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, and Associate and Assistant Deans for Admissions on recruitment initiatives, including recruitment visits to college campuses and post-baccalaureate programs, participation at national and regional conferences, including SNMA, LMSA, etc. to expand number of UiM students applying to the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine.
Plays a key role in admissions processes, including participation on interview days, administrative interviewing during the admissions season, participation on the admissions committee, contributing to the content and structure of revisit weekends as well as contributes to special initiatives (phone banks, etc.) to bring diversity with a specific focus on UiM students to Pritzker matriculants.
Responsible for oversight of summer pathway programs for UiM undergraduates who wish to prepare for future careers in medicine, including recruitment, admissions processes, working the Associate Dean for HEDI and other faculty leaders to set up lectures, mentors, and other content-related aspects of the program.
Identifies extramural funding opportunities to support programs including grant support for pipeline programs and development opportunities for philanthropic support.
Provides support for extramural funding (NIH grants) supporting key initiatives such as the pathway programs and summer research programs including supporting data collection and preparation of progress reports, as well as competing continuations of these grants.
Provides oversight of the budget associated with the programs offered through the Office of Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Supervises one full-time L743 union employee in the Office of Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Solves complex problems in areas such as academic and administrative policy, student admissions, curriculum research and development, and budget development. Advises various campus-wide and program committees in various aspects of student life.
Leads and recommends process improvements for programs that relate to critical student-life improvement, including emergency management, accommodations for students with disabilities, and/or the administration of health care services and programs for students.
Performs other related work as needed.
Senior-level leadership experience in a university environment working directly with students.
Experience in successfully providing direction, setting priorities, identifying opportunities for improvement, implementing initiatives for change, managing people and projects, and setting priorities for budget resources.
Extensive project management skills and negotiation experience.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other common software programs.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Must be able to enthusiastically support the initiatives of the school, while being able to maintain a calm and courteous demeanor and work productively despite a heavy workload.
Must be able to problem-solve and follow an issue through to resolution.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to handle all constituents with courtesy, maturity, discretion, and diplomacy.
Must be able to collaborate and work with other colleagues, particularly faculty and staff supporting Admissions, Curriculum, and Student Affairs/Programs.
Proven ability to set and maintain standards for a high volume of productivity in a fast-paced environment.
Must possess a high degree of accuracy with attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Will need to work successfully in a team atmosphere, specifically with other unit leaders within the medical school.
Ability to work with students and families and be sensitive to confidential issues.
Willingness to work evenings and weekends, and travel on behalf of the medical school.
Must be able to see, hear, walk, write, and utilize a computer.
