The College of Professional Studies (CPS) seeks an entrepreneurial, student-focused leader to provide strategic and academic management of the College's graduate programs. The Associate Dean will manage all aspects of program development, quality and growth, for a portfolio of approximately 20 graduate degrees and 25 graduate certificates. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to and evidence of a learner-centered, experiential approach to graduate education, along with experience managing faculty and staff.
This role reports to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for the College of Professional Studies and will work with college leadership as well as academic leaders across Northeastern to serve all learners with a distinctive student experience.
Responsibilities, areas of focus, and key skills include:
Program management & development:
Participate in multi-year strategic planning for professional graduate programs and annual budget goals.
Work collaboratively with senior leaders, faculty, students, staff, and industry partners to develop new offerings and revitalize existing programs within the graduate portfolio.
Working with CPS senior and program leaders, create opportunity pathways between non-credit / credit and undergraduate / graduate programs, expanding the offerings and markets served.
In accordance with CPS' diversity plans, implement strategies, set metrics and measure outcomes to effectively engage diverse learners for equitable access and success.
Partner with Student Services to direct graduate program leadership and faculty on student experience initiatives and engagement to enhance the student journey.
Implement processes with academic advising, faculty, and university resources on early warning measures for students approaching academic warning or probation.
Ensure students engagement opportunities (e.g., career workshops, resume writing, networking events) meet student demand on a term-by-term basis.
Provide management on overall program enrollment performance, including data-informed management of enrollments, margins, learner and faculty success.
Partner with Enrollment Management and Admissions to oversee admission policies, timelines, pipeline, and student support through the admissions process.
Work to build partnerships and pathways with corporate partners, relevant foundations, and other organizations to build access pathways and opportunities for learners.
Work collaborative with senior leaders to expand the graduate portfolio through new programs and the expansion of current offerings across the global network of campuses.
Travel Quarterly to relevant campus locations to meet with students, staff and campus leaders.
Coordinate with Global Launch Services on CPS's overall graduate go-to-market strategy and program portfolio within the global university system.
Develop a deep understanding of international and domestic graduate learners including their goals, expectations and outcomes, and ensure that faculty and staff in each program are centered on learner outcomes - in academic progress, program completion and experiential learning.
Ensure faculty are adhering to program and course outcomes in teaching.
Ensures learners can voice concerns and issues in a transparent and direct manner.
Ensure programs have appropriate curriculum rigor and depth of engagement in the classroom environment.
Coordinate with Co-op partners and college resources to provide experiential learning opportunities within the portfolio of graduate programs.
Review the portfolio of graduate programs annually for market relevance, course, minor, and concentration offerings, and needs within industry.
Ensure accreditation, compliance, and quality metrics based on programmatic and regulatory needs for graduate programs and certificates within CPS.
Lead the authoring of graduate accreditation standards and updates, standards for licensure, and college and university catalogs.
Coordinate all new programs, program revisions, and program deactivation proposals with program leads and relevant committees prior to submission to university governance committees.
Review new graduate programs with other college associate deans and relevant committees within the university.
Facilitate final review and approvals of graduate course substitutions/waivers, transfer credit requests, change of major requests, and incomplete grade contracts.
Serve as the CPS representative on the University Graduate Curriculum Committee.
In collaboration with Academic Operations, serve as the final reviewer for grade appeals and academic complaints within the portfolio of graduate programs.
Build a community of practice for faculty that supports professional development, equitable practice and student success, in alignment with the recruitment, engagement and retention of diverse faculty across programs.
Assess faculty performance in the classroom and make recommendations that support teaching best practices.
Recommend guidance and resolution for issues related to faculty performance within graduate programs.
Qualifications and Skills:
A terminal degree from an accredited institution
Significant strategic and academic leadership experience in creating, managing and expanding academic programs that increase access and serve all learners
Experience with data-informed decision-making, strategic planning and setting market strategies
Experience in developing online and hybrid programs with structured design, immersive learning and learner communities
Experience building partnerships with organizations to build pathways for learners
A demonstrated commitment to recruiting and coaching diverse teams, fostering an equitable educational environment with an ability to inspire and collaborate with diverse student and faculty populations.
A record of effective teaching at the graduate level that evidences a commitment to innovative pedagogy and inclusive learning
Evidence of managing multiple priorities, teams and stakeholders with an approach that balances relationships, outcomes, quality and speed.
Big picture thinking with the ability/interest in building college-wide teams that can work on shared goals, projects and decisions across the global network.
Passion for student success through deep insights, repeatable process and specific metrics.
This is a 12-month administrative position at the rank of Associate Dean and is subject to annual renewal based on satisfactory performance and continuing need. This position is based in Boston, MA.
