Job Description

The Associate Director manages all aspects of the activities that are offered by the Office of the First Year Experience at Boston College. Under the guidance and direction of the Executive Director of the Center for Student Formation and Director of the Office of First Year Experience, the Associate Director works closely with the staff of FYE and various other constituencies within and outside of Boston College to develop and oversee activities that meets the needs of the first year student community at BC. S/he ensures that the work of FYE is both current and effective by staying abreast of appropriate research and trends, overseeing the assessment of departmental activities and integrating appropriate changes and developments based on such research and feedback. This Associate Director reports to the Director of the Office of First Year Experience and shares in the supervision of two Assistant Directors (plus two additional Assistant Directors during the summer) and the graduate student who works within FYE.

Additional Responsibilities Include:
-Managing a two person staff (four people during the summer) that aids in the programming aspects of Orientation by collaborating with University departments from both the academic and student affairs divisions
-Overseeing and developing seven summer and one winter orientation sessions by collaborating with University departments from both the academic and student affairs divisions
-Overseeing and developing a three-day off-campus and two-week, on-campus training for Orientation Leaders- Managing all programming and development of the 48HOURS program (including eight, two-day retreats throughout the academic year)
-Overseeing the recruitment, interviewing and training processes of the 48HOURS student leaders (over 100)
-Overseeing the recruitment of first-year students for the 48HOURS retreat through marketing initiatives
-Overseeing the 48HOURS Council
-Managing all programming aspects of First Year Academic Convocation and Conversations in the First Year
-Overseeing the creation and implementation of a program to better support underrepresented students through their initial transition to the University.
-Developing and overseeing evaluations of all FYE programming and integrating feedback into future programming
-Advising students on a walk-in basis, maintaining regular office hours and serving on an on-call rotation for student appointments
-Training and supervising FYE student staff
-Representing FYE on various University committees
-Other duties as assigned

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $67,400 to $84,250; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

- Masters degree required
- A minimum of five year post-Masters experience working at an educational institution
- A strong understanding of student development theory
