*This position is a non-sworn, unarmed position within the current security organization.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Supervise security and public safety staff, enforce departmental rules and regulations governing officers' performance, and initiate disciplinary action where appropriate.
Assists in the setup of weekly guard schedule, monitor assignment of overtime; initiate needed changes to cover unscheduled absences.
Investigate campus security incidents; prepare appropriate reports; ensure that proper campus personnel and/or external groups are notified when necessary (i.e., human resources, student affairs, MPD Responds to medical emergencies, fire alarms, and directs security personnel as needed.
Trains and supervises contract security personnel. Provides general information at roll calls.
Assist in scheduling and conducting fire drills, including maintaining records for Fire Department inspections.
Supervises and ensures accurate, complete, and correct report writing and documentation procedures and techniques, etc.
Serve as liaison to the contract guard service, campus personnel, students, and other outside constituencies.
Resolve minor complaints or conflicts involving members of the campus community.
Provide foot patrol of all university grounds and buildings.
Conduct a periodic walkthrough of all occupied buildings, ensures security officers conduct thorough patrols of campus buildings and ground.
Monitors CCTV and alarm systems and responds to alerts.
Supervises special events and assigned security personnel.
Supervises security officers assigned to lock and unlock campus buildings and offices as necessary.
Maintains security controls for issued University keys; safeguards and controls for issued University equipment.
Watches for and reports irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations.
Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators approaching suspicious persons and/or notify the police as appropriate.
Schedule: M-F 10:30 pm – 7:00 am. On-Call one weekend a month.

General Supervisor Responsibilities
Evaluate, assess, and analyze the performance of security personnel.
Maintain all security devices and products in good working condition.
Develop and implement preventative measures against accidents, thefts, and other risks.
Ensure compliance with applicable policies and regulations while implementing security measures.
Acts as troubleshooter for any problems that might arise during the shift.
Provide crime prevention training and education to the community we protect.
Acts as Incident Commander until additional command resources arrive during a crisis.
Conduct shift-based drills to ensure security personnel readiness.
Maintains training and development records.
Monitors and tracks the adherence to time and attendance standards.
High School diploma/GED required.
Three years of related security experience required.
Must have valid state-issued identification.
Must pass a University criminal background investigation.
At least five years of law enforcement supervisory/management experience preferred.
Prefer experience involving more complex assignments.
Associate of Arts (A.A) Degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Liberal Arts, or Social Sciences discipline preferred. Bachelor's Degree desirable.
Successful completion of entrance-level training at an accredited Police Academy preferred.
