The Director of Basic Needs is a key position supporting the Division of Student Affairs, and the Dean of Students Office, in its mission to serve as a central hub dedicated to cultivating belonging and connecting students with the resources and support needed to thrive at NYU. The Director is the primary lead on initiatives and systems designed to support students struggling with basic needs such as food and housing, in both acute and chronic circumstances. The Director’s work will include both direct intervention with individual students as well as working within institutional systems to identify, assist, and assess trends and gaps related to basic needs. The Director will be a member of the Division of Student Affairs Senior Team and work collaboratively with other team members to ensure programs, resources, and services throughout the Division recognize and support students’ basic needs.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education: Master's Degree
Required Experience: 7+ years demonstrate progressively responsible professional experience in higher education and student services, or similar experience in government/non-profit agencies with basic needs missions.
Preferred Experience: Experience in a college or university setting working with a diverse population.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Excellent communication, organizational and planning skills; exemplary relationship building skills with both internal and external constituents; ability to navigate crisis situations with empathy and sensitivity; understanding of societal, cultural, and institutional barriers to access to education; and a strong commitment to advancing diversity and equity in higher education.
In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $85,000.00 - $135,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
