Provide advocacy and assistance in support of student issues and challenges. Direct, develop and coordinate strategies and programs to assist with the enrollment, retention, graduation and employment of Veterans, service members, dependents and survivors.
Essential Job Functions
Provide direct services to students and families such as assistance with course registration, FAFSA completion, and access to Veterans Benefits.
Train students on how to use the course planning tools offered by GRCC to students.
Refer cases to student veteran advisor liaison for transfer or academic goal guidance.
Support New Veteran Student Orientation and enrollment sessions.
Provide coaching directly to students on a drop in and appointment basis.
Assist Veteran Center Coordinator in offering academic support services out of the Veteran Center
Work with tutoring coordinators to facilitate academic year and summer tutoring services
Assist families in understanding and completing the FAFSA and Veterans Benefits Checklist.
Assist participants in researching postsecondary programs and institutions, and in preparing admissions applications and essays.
Assist the coordinator in entering and maintaining accurate student records in the database to include service hours, tutoring hours, advising/coaching contacts, student attendance, academic improvement/ progress.
Assist director in coordinating grant-sponsored events, workshops, college visits, etc.

Prior student service experience preferred
23 years working with student veterans, or low-income, first-generation students and students from disadvantaged backgrounds preferred
Knowledge of FAFSA preferred
Knowledge of data reporting systems preferred
Equipment Use / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Utilize conference technology, desktop and laptop computers, student success software system for case notes and appointments, student online center/registration system
Strong interpersonal communication skills including listening skills
Mental Demands
Ability to work under deadlines
Must be able to effectively work with individuals of various backgrounds, experiences, and diverse racial and ethnic populations
Must be able to recognize and handle confidential information with care
Physical Demands
Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time (over 2 hours)
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
Working Conditions
Able to work indoors in an office setting with extended computer usage daily.
