The School of Public Health (SPH) is a large and complex professional school at UC Berkeley, with a mission to improve population health, especially for the most vulnerable, through interdisciplinary collaborations, preeminent education, and transformational research. The School is comprised of six academic divisions and 30 research centers and programs, with over 200 faculty, 120 academic/research staff, 155 management/professional/ administrative staff, and 285 student researchers/instructors/workers. The School offers a core MPH degree with nine areas of study, along with five MA and MS degree programs, a DrPH and five PhD degree programs, and five concurrent programs with other UC Berkeley schools and colleges; in addition, the School offers a joint degree with UC San Francisco. The School launched UC Berkeley's first on-line degree program in 2012 and is rapidly expanding the program to reach a wide range of domestic and international audiences through online degrees, certificate programs, and executive education. The School enrolls approximately 575 graduate students per year, as well as educating roughly 440 undergraduate students through an upper-division public health major. The School's more than 13,000 graduates can be found working throughout the world, in both the public and private sectors.
Environmental Health Sciences (EHS), one of six academic divisions within SPH, focuses on the human health impacts of physical, biological, and chemical agents in the community and workplace; in particular, the quantitative evaluation of these environmental risks and the means of their control. The Division houses 8 ladder rank faculty, 7 adjunct faculty and 9 teaching faculty, and a student body of more than 70 graduate students in MPH, MS, and PhD programs in Global Health and Environment and Environmental Health Sciences. The Division Manager manages the full operations of this academic division. Administrative services include activities in finance and human resources and may also include IT, facilities, or student services. In partnership with the EHS Division Head, includes long and short range strategic administrative planning for the division.

Manages, plans, and administers a range of administrative operations for the Division of Environmental Health Sciences in the School of Public Health.
Oversees the financial operation of the academic component of the Division.
Administrative operations include budgetary financial management and human resources and some of the following functions: IT, facilities, student services, and/or contracts and grants.
Serves as liaison with the SPH Academic Personnel office.
Responsible for the Division's academic personnel component, including recruitment and reappointments for all senate faculty, non-senate academics, postdoctoral fellows and visiting scholars.
Serves as liaison with CSS Human Resources, overseeing the recruitment and hiring of new staff, GSRs and other student personnel, and addressing problems with payroll issues.
Responsible for the direct supervision of support staff.
Design, implement, assess, and refine procedural systems to ensure the efficient operation of the Division.
Coordinate communication for the Division and ensure that Division investigators, administrators and staff are informed of Division activities and program planning.
Oversee student services, including oversight of staff who coordinate the admissions process with the SPH Student Services Office, lead Division-related components of graduation, and maintain the curricular offerings and teaching schedule.
Develop and manage student funding packages.
Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes financial and HR reports.
Participates with other higher-level managers to establish strategic plans and objectives.
Represents the Division in School-wide meetings and discussions.
Serves on committees.
Makes decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures achievement of operation's objectives (operational and budget processes, academic and/or staff FTE, finance, recharge administration, human resources, IT and space planning).
Develops and implements procedures for supply inventory, for keeping equipment in good working condition, and for requesting facilities access including building access and office phone/networking.
Administers facilities and space logistics and manages equipment needs in collaboration with faculty Division Head.
Participates in trainings and other professional development opportunities.

Thorough knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University rules and regulations, processes, protocols, and procedures with a focus on budget, account and fund management, personnel management of labor contract(s), and personnel policies.
Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
Knowledge of a variety of administrative operations activities such as events planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
Proven ability to organize work functions in an efficient and effective manner.
Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn common University-specific computer applications, web-based collaboration tools, and web-based scheduling, financial and information management.
Strong skills to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of faculty, staff, students, campus leadership, and external constituencies, both verbally and in writing.
Strong skills in analysis and complex problem-solving, aligned with a strong service orientation.
Ability to act independently and take responsibility for a wide variety of complex administrative tasks, as well as collaborate effectively with others at varying levels of the organization.
Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, and eligible for full UC benefits.
This is an exempt, monthly paid position. The annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $89,000.00 - $95,000.00.
