SUNY New Paltz is seeking a full-time, 10-month tenure-track Instructor with a specialty in either School Counseling or Clinical Mental Health Counseling to join its newly CACREP Accredited and growing Counselor Education Department. In addition to teaching 3 graduate level courses per semester, the individual will help develop and direct a telemental health clinic ideally aimed at serving underserved clients (e.g., rural, economically disadvantaged, Hispanic/Latinx). Candidates who bring diverse cultural experience and who are especially qualified to mentor and advise all members of our diverse student population are especially encouraged to apply. This position will start August 2023. In addition to program, departmental, university-wide and professional service, requirements for this position include:
· Commitment to training counseling students.
· Development and direction of a telemental health clinic.
· Supervising/monitoring students in practicum and internship seminars.
· Teaching graduate courses in School Counseling and/or Mental Health Counseling such as School Counseling/Mental Health Counseling Practicum and Internship, Counseling Skills, Psychopathology, Couple and Family, Multicultural Counseling, and other electives based on expertise.
Qualifications:
Required:
Doctoral degree in counselor education, from a CACREP-accredited program, or have related doctoral degree and have been employed as full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013.
Excellent ABD candidates with a firm date of completion will be considered.
Demonstrated professional identity as and demonstrated commitment to an identity as a counselor educator as defined by CACREP with clear affiliations to relevant counseling associations (i.e., membership with ACA/ACES).
Experience as a School Counselor and/or Clinical Mental Health Counselor.
Evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., SEIs, observation letters).
Demonstrated awareness/knowledge of racial inequalities and challenges faced by historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged groups.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice advocacy.
The ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty, and a community who are from intersecting marginalized social groups.
Preferred:
Certified as a School Counselor and/or licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in New York State.
Knowledge of underserved populations and relevant social justice issues (e.g., immigration/acculturation, identity, colorism, intersectionality, etc.).
Graduate from a CACREP accredited program.
Experience with CACREP accreditation.
