The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is responsible for the coordination and development of student services and building the inclusive excellence of SDSU's staff and faculty at San Diego State University. Departments include, but not limited to, Assistant Deans for Student Affairs; Career Services; Center for Educational Partnerships, Outreach and Success; Communications Services; Counseling & Psychological Services; Cultural and Identity Centers; Educational Opportunity Programs and Ethnic Affairs; Financial Aid and Scholarships; Military Veterans Program; New Student and Parent Programs; Office of the Student Ombudsman; Residential Education; Resource Management; Student Ability Success Center; Student Health Services; Student Life and Leadership; Student Rights and Responsibilities; Testing Services Office; Well-being & Health Promotion; and programming related to Inclusive Excellence.
Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity
The Division works proactively to address systemic inequities through professional learning, community building, advocacy, policy recommendations and organizational structures, while facilitating an integrated vision and shared responsibility for prioritizing and advancing institutional goals. The Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. ODOS promotes student growth and leadership development through teaching, advising and intentional personal interactions. ODOS staff encourage and facilitate opportunities for students to connect and engage in the campus community while striving to provide a safe and inclusive campus environment. In addition, the office supports the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students in serving as Liaison to the College of Education for the purposes of coordinating Graduate Student Assistants and Graduate Interns from the Masters' Degree in Postsecondary Educational Leadership, Specialization in Student Affairs.
Through participation in the activities within the Office of the Dean of Students, students are connected to the University through an array of structured and informal learning opportunities. Students are encouraged, supported and empowered to pursue academic success, personal growth, an understanding of diverse human experiences, and compassionate activism on and off campus.
The SDSU Connects initiative helps to support students by actively outreaching in a variety of formats to address their needs. The SDSU Connects team supports university retention and recruitment efforts. The Assistant Coordinator of this team will be trained to provide essential leadership and coordination of strategic efforts to meet student success goals.

This is a full-time, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2023, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with some evening and weekend work as needed.
This position is physically located at the SDSU Main Campus.
Education and Experience
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job- related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year- for- year basis.
Experience working on teams and supporting colleagues on collaborative initiatives.
Ability to understand and navigate a dynamic campus culture.
A strong commitment to diversity and inclusion with demonstrated success working effectively with diverse individuals and communities.
Ability to effectively administer and coordinate a variety of concurrent and ongoing activities.
Experience working with a large diverse student population.
Basic knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior.
Ability to collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data.
Ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work and student advising and community contacts.
Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.
Effective interpersonal skills required to build and maintain cooperative working relationships among diverse individuals and groups.
Basic knowledge with event planning, coordination and implementing program activities.
Ability to multitask with day-to-day changes in priorities.
Ability to effectively handle and complete several ongoing projects and activities in a work environment characterized by frequent interruptions.
Ability to effectively use Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint to create and analyze reports, manage data, resource materials and presentations.
Ability to learn and use the Presence platform.
Ability to conduct presentations on programmatic co-curricular activities.
Working knowledge of or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of university policies, procedures, rules and regulations and their application to student organizations, student activities and expression, and student governance structures preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,513 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,513 - $4,298 per month.
SDSU Vaccine Policy
In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. An individual is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their second dose of a two-shot vaccine or two weeks after the first dose of a single-shot vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.
The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
