We are seeking a Mental Health Therapist who will focus primarily on providing services for students, trainees, post-doctoral fellows, and house staff on the East Baltimore campus. Reporting to the Clinical Director of the University Health Services Mental Health clinic in East Baltimore, this staff member will provide direct and indirect clinical services, crisis intervention, outreach, and consultation. The successful candidate will consult and work collaboratively with colleagues to provide culturally competent, evidence-based care.
It is anticipated that the person in this position may provide some services at other campus locations in Baltimore and Washington, DC when coverage needs arise. Flexible hours are required at key times in the academic year (e.g. orientation and special events) including evenings and weekends.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Provides clinical services, including initial consultations, individual counseling, and crisis intervention to JHU students, with a special emphasis on services for graduate and professional students, trainees, post-doctoral fellows, and house staff on the medical campus.
Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.
Utilizes goal-oriented approaches to treatment including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and interpersonal therapy, often in collaboration with treating psychiatrists.
Assesses the needs of clients with treating psychiatrist to determine therapy frequency, duration, and scope.
Collaborates with campus partners to provide outreach and opportunities for support of students outside the clinic, such as participation in the Chat with a Counselor program or population-specific skills trainings.
Demonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging in clinical work and all professional activities.
Participates in afterhours (as backup to ProtoCall) on-call shifts, in rotation with the rest of the clinical staff.
Works to remain up to date in the literature on the needs of college and professional students, fellows and trainees; researches and executes evidence-based strategies and interventions targeted toward this population.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Experience providing services to college and professional students is strongly preferred.
Possess the ability to work with a wide range of presenting concerns in individual and group counseling.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups.
Ability to effectively engage audiences during presentations.
Commitment to actively engage in practice with diverse populations, and to one's own ongoing development of multicultural competence as a professional.

Computer or other Special Requirements
Knowledge of Microsoft Word and facility in emails is required. Knowledge of Excel helpful.
Experience with electronic medical record systems is strongly preferred; training will be provided for SHWB platform
Degree of Independent Action Performed
Must possess the ability to function independently; clinical supervision and consultation will be provided.
Masters' Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or a closely related field.
Two years related experience.
Must be licensed as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland at time of hire.
