Major Duties: General summary: Manages computer interface and troubleshoots with Western Michigan University's Information Technology experts. Analyzes and applies immigration and admissions data transactions directly into the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) data feed through the Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). This process uses the International Student and Scholar Management (ISSM) vendor batching software that manages all DHS transactions through SEVIS. Serves in the capacity of Designated School Official (DSO)/Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) to provide immigration advice to faculty scholars regarding these transactions. - Analyzes and interprets federal regulations while advising international faculty and scholars with requests, regulations, and legal implications in compliance with federal law; evaluates and prepares student applications to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.- Manages records/daily operation of Student & Exchange Visitor Information System, compile data, and prepares reports using high attention to detail while reporting to the Department of Homeland Security in compliance with federal and state laws.- Manages interface between Banner, International Scholar and Student Management, and SEVIS while issuing admission forms I-20 and DS-2019 in the ISSM system for federal compliance while troubleshooting and resolving datalink problems; refers complex programming problems to information technology (IT); serves an active role in providing analysis, feedback, and testing with information technology (IT) specialist.- Provides direction and guidance to international student and scholar services staff regarding record keeping systems and computer programs (Banner, ISSM, SEVIS, Outlook, COGNOS, and more).- Develops, contributes, creates, edits, and maintains immigration information on I3S website in compliance with University standards.- Supervises student employees, assists Senior Director with initiatives, and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - Associate's degree or two years' college coursework in a related field from an accredited institution.- One year's relevant experience.- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to meet the federal requirements to serve as a Designated School Official (for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security) and Alternate Responsible Officer (for the U.S. Department of State).
