The Department of Recreational Sports is seeking a Coordinator of Adventure Trips & Classes. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 12-month professional faculty position.

Position Summary The Adventure Leadership Institute (ALITM) is the authority in adventure leadership education. We are educators who develop and change students using experience as our textbook and the outdoors as our classroom. The Coordinator of Adventure Trips and Classes coordinates outdoor recreation/adventure trips and instructional classes for the Adventure Leadership Institute (ALI). The coordinator actively creates learning environments that empower OSU students to create safe, inclusive, and accessible recreational opportunities. The primary purpose of this position is to directly interact with students and enhance their learning and experiences outside of the classroom setting.
The position coordinates opportunities for learners to will gain technical skills and confidence to engage in outdoor recreation. Skill development will emphasize experiential learning, self-efficacy, and stewardship. This position is responsible for the facilitation of traditional and adventure-based outdoor recreation trip programs and classes that will expose participants to many facets of leadership opportunities including group management, outdoor living, wilderness medicine, trip planning, critical thinking, and skill acquisition in activities like backpacking, hiking, camping, rock climbing and mountaineering. The Coordinator develops travel protocol and risk management plans consistent with the department, university, and state policies and procedures to ensure a high quality program delivery.
Instruction and curriculum development is a key part of the role and is vital in developing students and appropriately preparing them for the responsibility of leading participants in activities which often occur in outdoor environments that are sometimes in remote locations. The Coordinator focuses on developing community so the learners will cultivate interpersonal connections. Community building is achieved through shared experiences connected to nature and the welcoming environment we create.
The Coordinator for Adventure Trips and Classes reports to the Senior Assistant Director of the Adventure Leadership Institute. This position develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with other professionals in the Recreational Sports and within the university community to ensure consistency in policy and procedure that has far reaching impact.

Typically requires Bachelor's degree in Sports or Rec Management, Business Administration, College Student Services Administration or related field. Certification pertaining to relevant functional area or recreation program. 1 year experience in recreational/fitness related program.
Bachelor's degree in management, outdoor recreation, education, human sciences, business, communications, or related field.
Demonstrated progressive experience in the administration and implementation of outdoor/adventure education, trips, and events, and/or related field.
Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and ability to instruct the outdoor recreation courses, including but not limited to: Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, and Wilderness Living Techniques.
Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and ability in supervising, training/development, and evaluating of student employees, student associates, and/or practicum/interns.
Demonstrated experience, knowledge, and ability to safely travel in remote and exposed wilderness terrain.
Demonstrable leadership in the advancement of diversity and inclusion.
Demonstrable commitment to student development through teaching and employment.
Certifications in the following: CPR with AED for the Professional Rescuer and, Wilderness First Responder by hire date.
Blood Borne Pathogens/Universal Precaution obtained within 90 days of hire date.
Leave No Trace Trainer or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
Typical work schedule will be between 9am-6pm including evening and weekend hours to lead and support Adventure Trips student staff and participants.
Leads adventure trips with participants and must be able to move or carry equipment including but not limited to rafts, canoes, boats, rock climbing equipment and ropes.
