Under the direction of the Associate Director, the incumbent is responsible for the collection and maintenance of a University Student Accounts Receivable portfolio . The Senior Student Service Representative counsels students and works closely with the University???s student loan servicer, alumni, University departments, and outside collection agencies daily.
Performs collection activities and due diligence relevant to the Student Account.
Communicates daily with students and alumni on matters, questions, and disputes concerning student accounts.
Utilizes loan servicing platform and the Student Information System (SIS) for processing address changes, monitoring collection activity, and special billing arrangements.
Monitors collection activity and reviews/evaluates credit histories and other supporting documentation to facilitate account collection. Updates student account payment batches based on monthly statements received from collection agencies.
Works with outside agencies to resolve problems and/or disputes and provides agencies with required documentation and itemization.
Negotiates payment arrangements on outstanding accounts and monitors special billing arrangements. Analyze accounts for write-off and create write-off batches to be processed
Conducts federally required entrance/exit interviews and counseling sessions with students.
Provides loan counseling to students and similar functions in the absence of Student Loan Representatives.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Three years related experience
Some college preferred
Familiarity with mainframe computer inquiry systems preferred.
Experience in dealing with highly confidential information needed.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel recommended.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are necessary.
