WellWorks is a wellness program serving the Athens Community including Ohio University faculty, staff, spouse/partners and community members through our fitness facility, group fitness studios, HeartWorks cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation center, massage therapy, nutrition counseling and educational programming. General Description: The Fitness Program Coordinator is responsible for the oversight and implementation of fitness programming and services offered virtually and at WellWorks Wellness Center. Work includes development, implementation, and management of the personal training, group fitness, specialty/inclusion programs and staff. This position works collaboratively with the OHIO Wellness unit to provide integrated programming for Ohio University employees, WellWorks members/clients and customers.
1. Personal Training: Leads personally training and fitness assessment programs. Including supervising, hiring, training, and evaluating student personal trainers. Develop and implement on-boarding training for new trainers that are not certified. Coordinate client to trainer pairing to ensure meaningful experience for both. Oversee additional continuing education for personal trainers to expand their soft and hard skills. Ensure personal training generates revenue and provides evidence based, assessments and goal-oriented programming for clients. Oversees 20-30 student personal trainers. | 40 % of Time
2. Oversees collaborations with OHIO Wellness team to support fitness programming that supports employee well-being including management of Risk Reduction program and fitness testing for OUPD.
Oversees 4-6 student practicums and 1 student manager.
3. Manages group fitness programming. Supervising, hiring, mentoring, and evaluating group fitness instructors. This work includes in-person, virtual, and hybrid teaching styles. Teach at least 2 classes a week. Determine specialty/inclusion classes to expand audience served through fitness programming (Active Seniors, Triathlon Training, and Member Group Fitness). This also includes equipment inventory (including audio/visual components); and making recommendations for repair and replacements. Occasionally, purchasing of fitness equipment or supplies.
Associate's degree is required by start date in exercise physiology, exercise science or other related field. Applicants will be considered holding an unrelated Associate's degree but only if in addition have equivalent work experience in a fitness setting.
At least one year of professional experience, or, at least two years of experience as a graduate assistant in the administration of fitness management, exercise prescription, or health promotion programs.
Knowledge of fitness components as they relate to the development of a wellness lifestyle concept.
Experience recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating employees.
Demonstrated interpersonal, presentations, written and verbal communication skills.
Current Group Fitness and/or Personal Training certification(s) from a nationally accredited certifying board (Preferred certifications from ACSM, ACE, AFAA/NASM, CSCS and/or NSCA).
Ability to become Certified Instructor for First Aid, CPR, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogen within 6 months of start date.
Bachelor's degree in exercise science, corporate wellness, higher education or closely related field.
Two or more years of demonstrated success in fitness programming management, preferred in a collegiate setting.
Specialty certifications in one or more area preferred RYT 200, Pilates, Barre, Spin, TRX.
First Aid/CPR instructor certification.
