Johns Hopkins University is seeking a relationship-driven, compassionate, and organized team player to serve as an Academic Advisor in the Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising in the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE). The Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising (UAA), located on the beautiful Homewood campus in north Baltimore, Maryland, supports the WSE mission to prepare undergraduates to be 21st century leaders by providing an outstanding engineering education and enabling undergraduates to participate fully in the research and translational activities of the school.Our office provides academic support to all undergraduate engineering students and coordinates the undergraduate faculty advising program.
The successful candidate will assume this role at an exciting time as the Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) is reimagining undergraduate academic advising, faculty mentoring, and advisor development. Academic Advisors performgeneraladvisingduties,handleacademic issuesaffecting students, manage registrationprocesses for incoming first year and transfer students, coordinate the graduationclearance process, and provide information to prospective students and their families. Enthusiasm for working with high achieving, socially and culturally diverse student populations is highly desired.
This position is hybrid, requiring three days in the office and two days working from home during the fall and spring semesters, and remote for 10-weeks in the summer. During critical times in the academic cycle, this hybrid schedule may be interrupted. Academic Advisors report to Associate Directors for Undergraduate Advising.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
Academic Advising (80%):
Help students navigate their academic experience by assisting with proactive academic planning, creative problem solving, and connection to academic resources.
Work with students holistically to help them meet their personal and academic goals and to help find solutions for personal, social, financial, and academic problems.
Assist undergraduates with course registration, academic strategies, and developing post-graduation plans.
View and manage early warning flags by providing outreach to students and communicating with faculty.
Troubleshoot problems with registration and refer students to support services to facilitate success.
Advise undergraduates on academic opportunities and requirements, policies, and procedures.
Meet with academic probation students and reinstated suspension students to conduct a self-assessment and articulate an academic success plan.
Monitor students' academic progress and proactively intervene when issues arise.
Communicate to students the process and deadlines for graduation processing.
Create and maintain accurate academic records using degree audit software and SIS, document student meetings and notes in the student information database.
Support retention and graduation goals by working with students on leave of absence or academic dismissal
Represent WSE UAA at University wide events, meetings, conferences, etc.
Programming, Projects, & Collaboration (20%):
Collaborate with professional colleagues and faculty to host small group advising sessions, and workshops.
Work in close collaboration with key campus partners (i.e., Registrar, Life Design, Financial Aid, Student Life, Residential Life).
Participate in Advising-wide and school-wide working groups and committees.
Contribute to projects to continually improve the academic advising service delivery and the training and development of academic advisors.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
3 yrs. of experience advising or other academicsupport services role for undergraduatestudents.
Strong multicultural competency.

Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field, including Social Science, is strongly preferred.
Experience with engineering students and programs.

Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
Experience supervising and developing staff.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other advising technology platforms.
