Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is seeking a versatile, talented, and enterprising Senior Communications Associate to join the Office of Global Marketing and Communications. You'll be craft compelling content about why Carey Business School is distinctive; and how our students, faculty, and staff engage in the complexities and challenges of the most important and emerging issues of our time, including the business of health, artificial intelligence, supply chain management, economy and finance, climate change, and more.
The ideal candidate will be driven, proactive, and an exceptional writer, editor and proofreader, with a passion for the mission of higher education in a diverse global environment. They'll have the demonstrated ability to write web-optimized content and timely news stories, craft thoughtful Q+As, and distill complex subject matter like faculty research in a way that resonates with a large, diverse, and curious readership in alignment with Carey Business School's tone and voice. This person will also conceptualize and/or contribute to the creation of other content across our team—including social media, photo galleries, videos, and interactive graphics—and contribute to the team's media relations efforts.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities: Program & Brand Storytelling – 50%
Identify, research, and write articles, listicles, messages, marketing collateral, and other communications for the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School website, e-newsletters, collateral, social media platforms, etc.
Cover varied beats by keeping abreast of research in those areas and communicating as is appropriate with faculty, staff, students, and alumni
Meet/work with school partners (web, marketing, admissions, student services, career services, programs and initiatives, financial aid, and development teams) to conceptualize, create or revise content.
Work closely with other members of the Marketing and Communications team on projects with multiple deliverables (marketing collateral such as brochures, posters, booklets, etc.).
Edit and proofread copy for a variety of communications and marketing materials, fundraising activities, events, and other content with an unerring eye for grammar, punctuation, construction, consistency, and Associated Press style.
Share ideas with the Marketing and Communications team, and particularly the Director of Communications and the Content Manager, for storytelling opportunities related to current events and trends.
Work closely with vendors/contractors (consulting editors, writers, and other freelancers); prospective students and prospective faculty; alumni, donors, board members; other external contacts as may be appropriate for projects.
Media Relations Assistance – 25%
Working with the Content Manager and with guidance from the Senior Director of Strategic Communications, contribute to media relations efforts by identifying compelling or stakeholder-valued media placement opportunities; creating and maintaining relationships in media; developing and producing media advisories, press releases, interviews, etc.; and helping to coordinate media availabilities, interviews, and other opportunities for external exposure.
Social Media Assistance – 15%
Working with the Social Media Specialist and the Content Manager, assist with community and editorial management of social media posts across Carey Business School's owned social media platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).
Work with students and collaborate with Social Media Specialist and Content Manager to share user-generated content.
Attend events to take photos and video for social media content (i.e., posts, reels, stories, etc.) as may be needed.
Other duties as assigned – 10%
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Business/marketing writing, or related field.
Four years of full-time work experience in journalism, marketing, media relations, or related communications field, including three years of regularly published writing and editing (SEO content writing a plus).

Experience in or knowledge of communications and marketing in a higher education environment.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Familiarity with Smartsheet and/or Asana a plus.
