The mission of the BSU Wellness Center is to provide for all Bridgewater State University student services that will assist them in maintaining optimal physical and emotional health, by making available comprehensive high quality, easily accessible, cost effective care. BSU Wellness Center is committed to working collaboratively with students to assist them in acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to develop and enhance healthy attitudes and behaviors that will promote high-level wellness. The Wellness Center will support students in their personal and academic development, consistent with the mission of Bridgewater State University. Successful candidates will be staff members that can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the BSU Wellness Center in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community.
Position Summary:
The Staff Assistant Counselor is a 10 month, APA unit position that provides intake assessment, crisis intervention, short-term counseling, group therapy, and community referrals to students. This position also provides consultation, psycho-educational programming and outreach to college staff, faculty and students.
Supervision Received: The Clinical Director of Counseling Services
Supervision Exercised: Opportunity to supervise clinical interns is available
This is an APA full time, 10-month position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
Tour of Duty: Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 5:00

Essential Duties:

1. Provide intake assessments, crisis intervention and referral to our diverse community of students.
2. Offer short-term counseling and clinical groups to all students.
3. Consult with and provide training for faculty, administrators, and staff about students who are either in crisis or demonstrating distressing behavior.
4. Using equity minded practices, professionally present outreach and educational programming to heighten student awareness about mental health and wellness issues, with special attention to BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and underrepresented student populations.
5. Provide supervision and training for graduate trainees under the direction of the Director and Training Coordinator.
6. Maintain statistics and keep up to date bio-psychosocial evaluations, clinical notes and treatment summaries in student files.
7. Participate in University's initiatives and programming around non-discrimination, racial justice, and violence prevention.
8. Provide on call coverage on evenings and weekends as deemed necessary.
Support Duties:
1. Address prioritized projects based on Center's needs / goals, in consultation with the Director and Training Coordinator.
2. Perform duties of a related nature in one's professional area, including the maintenance of professional development and continuing education.
Required Qualifications:

- Minimum of Master's degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or Counseling Psychology.
- Current licensure in Massachusetts, or eligibility for MA licensure within the first year of employment required.
- Three years of clinical experience with at least one year a college counseling center providing individual and group therapy.
- Passion for and commitment to social justice, racial justice, and civic engagement.
- Commitment to customer service excellence/support to enhance an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Counseling and experience with minority group clients required.
- Professional competence in providing crisis intervention as evidenced by training and experience, e.g. In-patient Psychiatric experience.
- Availability to provide service and staff consultation during specifically defined daytime, evening and occasional weekend hours when college in session. Vacation will be taken during college breaks in order to ensure availability of crisis services when students are on campus.
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as programs, services and division or University calendar necessitates.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience running both psycho-educational and process oriented groups with adults.
