Job Description: Under the supervision of the Dean of Students, the Assistant Dean will help lead the functional areas of student life and student support services. The AD will assist in meeting student needs, resolving students' problems and concerns, and fostering a sense community on campus. This position is responsible for the management of all student support services to include Student Accessibility Services, Testing Center and the Learning Center and all of its functions. This position has direct responsibility of ensuring that all academic programs and students services are accessible and meet requirements brought forth by ADA, Section 504 and Section 508 through promotion of UDL and partnership with departments across the institution. The AD will supervise due process procedures, assist the Dean of Students with the resolution of student conduct concerns, Title IX Investigations, and disciplinary processes.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinates all administrative functions of the Office of Accessibility Services, the Learning Center, and Testing Center.
- Work with appropriate college personnel to facilitate satisfactory solutions to issues and problems that fall within the responsibilities of the Dean of Students Office. Advise the Dean of Students on complaints and makes recommendation for resolution.
- Serves as the primary contact to assist students in reaching resolution of their informal requests or complaints through consultation, mediation and counseling.
- Resolves student behavior concerns in a fair and timely manner and maintains records of disciplinary or referral actions taken.
- Partners with other departments to ensure wrap around services are provided to students; Student Success, the Office of Project Access, and Student Engagement, etc.
- Assist in conducting Title IX investigations; Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding Title IX and relevant state, federal and local laws; stay abreast of trends in the field of higher education.
- Contributes to policy development in areas of ADA, Section 504, Section 508, Title IX and others.
- Works closely with faculty and staff to provide additional academic support in tutoring, test proctoring, accessibility and other strategies to promote student success and equity.
- Coordinate with Writing Center, Math Clinic, Language Lab and other department based instructional support to ensure an efficient delivery of services.
- Participates in Behavioral Intervention Team and coordinates immediate and long-term support strategies for students of concern.
- Coordinate various student services-related projects aimed at providing academic support to students.
- Prepare annual goals and objectives and manage restricted and unrestricted budgets.
- Assists in the preparation of the annual reports and grant applications.
- Prepare analysis of program efficacy as needed for college administration and external agencies.
- Maintain accurate advising and student records
- Collaborates with central offices of Admissions, Registrar and others regarding new students, transfer credit, transfer articulation, and other issues.
- Supervise, hire, and evaluate staff assigned to Office of Accessibility Services, the Learning Center, and Testing Center.
- Works effectively as a team member with all college departments.
- Participates in college governance and other college activities
- Represents Roxbury Community College in the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:(All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States.)
- Master's degree from a regionally-accredited institution of higher education in the US.
- At least 3-5 years of experience working in student services, academic advising, or in a student facing role within a community college setting preferred.
- Knowledge of ADA, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Commitment to maintaining knowledge of current best practices and innovative strategies to improve learning, persistence and degree completion of community college students.
- Experience in an urban, multicultural higher education environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information and manage complex and highly sensitive situations.
- Superior interpersonal skills.
- A highly effective listener and communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Evenings and weekend availability.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new software as may be required.
Additional Desired Qualification:
- Teaching experience in a community college setting.
- Experience in application of Title IX regulations, the Clery Act, relevant laws, and compliance issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in best practices related to universal design and accessibility.
- Experience and/or training in project management and conflict resolution.
