Job Description:
The Director is responsible for providing strategic planning, staff supervision and management of the American Indian Center. The Director provides leadership in the development and implementation of culturally relevant programs and services to support the recruitment and retention of American Indian students. The Director also collaborates with students, staff, faculty and tribal leaders to elevate awareness about tribal history, culture and sovereignty at St Cloud State University. The Director strives to enhance diversity, campus climate and equity in outcomes relevant to American Indian student success and collaborates across campus and throughout tribal communities in the state.
Provide leadership and management for the American Indian Center (AIC). Facilitate the development and implementation of student engagement initiatives for American Indian students.
- Work with the staff and faculty to provide academic, cultural, financial, career and personal development for American Indian students.
- Assist in providing leadership in implementing strategies to enhance campus climate and inclusion of American Indian students at St. Cloud State.
- Develop and implement programs to educate American Indian Students and the campus community on American Indian history, culture, sovereignty and contemporary issues.
- Provide leadership to an Indigenous Learning Community for students.
- Provide support to student leaders in the American Indian student organization.
Develop and maintain relationships with campus departments and external groups to support the recruitment and retention of American Indian students.
- Collaborate with staff partners (Student Life & Development units, Huskies Advance, Admissions, College of Education and more) to develop and implement student recruitment and retention programs and services for American Indian students.
- Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with tribal and state leaders to enhance access and success of prospective and current American Indian students to St. Cloud State.
- Establish relationships with relevant groups in the greater St. Cloud community capable of providing support for students.
- Collaborate with campus administrators, faculty and staff to increase the awareness of issues and needs of American Indian students.
- Outreach to organizations and groups to collaborate to enhance programs and services to support American Indian students.
Provide management in the selection, training, supervision and evaluation of student and staff employees. Responsible for the sound fiscal management and practices of department financial resources.
Provide leadership in a strategic plan and implementation of assessments of programs and services provided by the American Indian Center.
Serve on University committees, enrollment taskforces, and working groups as appointed by Supervisor and/or as needed. Actively engage in professional development activities.
Complete additional duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Life and Development to meet departmental, division, and university needs.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters plus 3 years of professional experience OR a Bachelor's plus 4 years of experience
- Knowledge about tribal history, culture, sovereignty and contemporary issues relevant to American Indian Students
- Demonstrated record of effective fiscal management, training and supervision of employees
- Proven organizational skills with project management and event planning
- Evidence of communicating effectively to a wide range of audiences through excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population, faculty and staff
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and ability to use various software programs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated record of successful recruitment and retention of American Indian students in higher education
- Understanding of student development and counseling strategies
- Evidence of ability to simultaneously manage multiple complex situations, programs, groups, and various stakeholder needs and expectations
- Demonstrated record of student program and service assessments
- Experience in fundraising and grant writing
