The Highlights Reporting to the Associate Vice President, the Assessment and Evaluation Specialist will lead the Division of Student Affairs' efforts to strategically assess, measure and communicate the impact of the work in the division. The Specialist will provide strategic insight into and oversight of qualitative and quantitative data gathering as they relate to goal progress and attainment. The position is responsible for working with Student Affairs staff, in particular the directors, on the development of learning outcomes and corresponding assessments, as well as providing recommendations to services and programs based on assessment feedback.
Working in support of the division's strategic plan and in an advising capacity to Cabinet and Divisional Council, this position is also responsible for division-wide assessment, evaluation and processes to support data driven decision making. The Specialist is responsible for establishing data protocols, institutionalizing data collection efforts, and identifying how best to measure progress toward strategic initiatives. In addition to supporting the division leadership, the Specialist will work closely with Institutional Research and Market Analytics (IRMA), Teaching & Learning, Information Services and other assessment partners to design research projects on institutional levels.
The Assessment and Evaluation Specialist has primary responsibility for all divisional level HLC assessment plans, projects and corresponding reports.
Is This You? - Work collaboratively with divisional leadership on the creation and implementation of learning outcomes and assessments for programs and services. Oversee the assessment process including project development, implementation, data analysis and reporting. Guide division leadership toward possible modifications and continuation of programs and services. Oversee all aspects of the HLC-related assessment projects.
- Identify, implement and track appropriate diagnostic and strategic metrics that measure progress relative to the strategic plan and division priorities, including but not limited to the university's Grounded in Mission plan. Collect, analyze and visualize quantitative and qualitative data to guide the division through interpretations of findings that inform and advance strategic initiatives. Collaborate with IS and IRMA partners to ensure data collection practices align with university systems and protocols and ensure data integrity.
- Provide direction and oversight for regular reporting included but not limited to a) management reports, b) annual reports, c) ad hoc reports for the Board of Trustees and university executives, and d) recruitment and retention-related reports. Identify and communicate trends and areas requiring attention, and recommend revisions to reports as needed. Create in-depth annual data/assessment reports, delivering findings and implications in presentations useful for reflection and decision-making.
- Respond to requests for information about Student Affairs metrics, assessments and data to internal and external partners and stakeholders. Work with the Marketing Communications Specialist to coordinate how to most effectively use data to share student success stories.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Your Education & Experience: - Master's degree required.
- Five to seven years of experience in assessment and/or data-informed decision making, ideally in higher education.
- Must have experience with survey development, assessment, and data analysis tools such as Qualtrics, SPSS, survey monkey or other online program review and survey tools.
- Experience overseeing quantitative and qualitative data collection and management, and contributing to the creation and maintenance of strategic metrics.
- Highly desirable:
• Experience with HLC project development and compliance
• Familiarity with data management and reporting tools such as Excel, Access, Tableau or similar tools
• Strong written communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work independently and as a team member to creatively solve problems; the ability to work effectively with a broad range of diverse constituents
