Job Summary:
The Sr. Program Coordinator oversees Medill academic programming at Northwestern’s San Francisco campus. They are responsible for ensuring a successful onsite experience for graduate and undergraduate students enrolled in Medill courses on the San Francisco campus, including supporting faculty curricular needs, leading co-curricular programming, and providing students relocation and orientation information. The Sr. Program Coordinator provides onsite student advising and support, in consultation with Evanston-based Student Affairs team. As a part of the Medill External Programs team, this position also coordinates academic programs based in other cities around the U.S.
Please note: Please note: The target budgeted salary for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 annually. Offers will be based on candidate experience and education, as well as equity within Northwestern University. This role is 100% on campus. Applicants must be local or willing to relocate to the San Franscico area.
Specific Responsibilities:
Administration
- Oversees & ensures that day-to-day operations are appropriately managed, efficient and effective.
- Develops, maintains & reports on quantitative and qualitative performance measures.
- Acts as liaison to IT to ensure technology systems are properly installed & maintained & meet the informational, analytical & computing needs of users.
- Serves at the main point of contact on-site for Medill students and faculty and provides localized and on-demand advising.
- Creates a sense of community across cohorts through co-curricular activities and by establishing a regular and consistent on-site presence with students during the academic sessions.
- Acts as a liaison with other schools and units operating academic programs in the San Francisco campus.
Communication, Outreach & Recruitment
- Ensures program/project success in regards to revenue & expense goals including recruitment, participation, etc.
- Pursues opportunities for alumni contact & solicitation.
- Collaborates with colleagues across the school to help advance Medill’s strategic goals and improve the educational experience of our students.
Evaluation
- Manages development and maintenance of evaluation processes including associated metrics and key performance indicators.
- Reviews & analyzes outcome measurements and recommends changes & enhancements to improve program/project.
- Collaborates with internal/external partners to implement changes designed to improve/increase program/project goals/objectives.
Events
- Manages curricular/co-curricular programming: educational, student, alumni, workshops, meetings, etc. including speakers, agendas, etc. at Medill SF.
- Manages planning and arrangement of meetings, workshops, events, etc. designed to exchange information, promote research objectives, and to build internal and external relationships within NU.
- Manages event details including communication, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments and technology are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Provides orientation and single point of contact for faculty and students at Medill SF.
- Manages curricular/co-curricular programming at other locations across the U.S., including planning arrangements and on-location program management.
Program Development
- Researches competitor, and state-of-the art developments to enhance, improve, and innovate program curricula and delivery to better meet goals & objectives.
- Oversees development and implementation of new program/project initiatives that meets the mission and objective of the programs and faculty directors, including the execution of these programs.
- Manages relationships with partners, and coordinates logistical support.
- Continually assesses and innovates program/project to achieve educational goals.
- Coordinates projects and programs outside of SF as needed in consultation with Medill’s Office of External Programs.
Student Support
- Manages recruitment, application evaluation, interview, selection and notification of students or participants in Medill SF programs.
- Supervises student orientation and other student events at Medill SF.
- Coordinates and liaisons with Medill Student Affairs and utilizes university resources to support students.
- Engages with faculty and student affairs leaders at other NU schools to support Medill SF students.
- Works with students in advance of their programs to anticipate housing, transportation, financial, and cultural impacts of living in SF.
Supervision
- Supervises 1-2 student workers.
Miscellaneous
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
- 2 years program/project administration or other relevant experience.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
- Must be self-directed and able to work in a team-based, collaborative environment.
- Must be comfortable and highly skilled in a public facing role that serves multiple constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, marketing or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in higher ed context in administration, student affairs or experiential learning.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
- Prior experience coordinating logistics for experiential learning.
- Prior event planning/event management experience.
- Superior project management, customer service and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously on tight deadlines.
