Within UAA, the Community Engagement and Leadership Education (CELE) unit provides students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to contribute to thriving communities. Building authentic community and campus partnerships drive our work. CELE programs are centered around the areas of community-engaged learning, democratic engagement, leadership education, pK-12 student success and place-based initiatives.
CELE has an outstanding opportunity for a Program Manager for Community Partnerships to join their team!
The Program Manager for Community Partnerships leads the day-to-day implementation of our academic community-engaged courses program and has significant responsibility for building community-based organization and campus relationships that support the overall mission of the CELE Center. The range of tasks in this position will include: direct advising with students enrolled in community-engaged courses, outreach to community-based partner organizations, work with faculty/instructors to support community-engaged pedagogy in their classrooms, and management of online systems and web content to enable and support community-based learning at the University of Washington.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of the Director of Community Engagement, the Program Manager for Community Partnerships will have the following responsibilities:
Community Engaged Course Program Management (40%) Maintain existing partnerships between the University and local non-profit agencies and government offices via site visits, phone calls, and electronic communication Provide strategic and logistical support for community partner organizations, students, and faculty in relation to community-engaged academic courses Lead community partner and student communication efforts Train community and school partners to use online system(s), including EXPO (an custom CRM system), for position posting and student evaluation Ensure community/school partner position descriptions, registrations, and evaluation processes are completed in a timely manner Coordinate responses (email and in person) to questions/concerns from students, faculty, community, and school partners Provide strategic and logistical support for hourly undergraduate and/or graduate student staff members as they grow their skills and capacities as team members Oversee and facilitate quarterly classroom presentations and pre-service workshop sessions for all CELE Center supported community engaged courses
Community Engaged Course Program Development (20%) Identify and develop partnerships with (new) community-based organizations in a manner that is consistent with CELE Center values Develop and implement online and in-person resources to prepare students for service experiences in collaboration with community-engaged courses student staff team Support development and implementation of online and in-person training resources for faculty, lecturers, instructors and graduate student instructors Build person-to-person relationships with faculty to better support their academic research and teaching goals Collaborate with the CELE Center colleagues to support faculty members' knowledge and facility with service-learning and community engagement scholarship, pedagogy and practice Coordinate opportunities for faculty/instructors to attend site visits with community partners to increase communication and understanding of their work
System Management & Development (10%) Collaborate with CELE Center professional staff team to create content and web-based resources for students, faculty, and community partner organizations Maintain database of organization contact information and respective engagement opportunity descriptions for community-engaged courses Lead constituent management system connection and integration across CELE Center programs; including the long-term redevelopment of our online system (EXPO) to reflect current business process and scalability of programs Support systems connection and integration around constituent management across CELE programs Produce reports on student involvement to satisfy institutional reporting requests/requirements Provide practical and technical support for on-line data management systems to community-engaged course team members; this may include but is not limited to student placements, course management, and query design Manage communication with students and community partner organizations via our on-line system (EXPO) Evaluation, Assessment and Administration (10%) Lead continual improvement process for existing community-engaged courses assessment plan; revise student and community partner assessment tools as needed to measure desired community engagement goals Work with student staff team to monitor and maintain quality of community-engaged courses; identify and develop supports to leverage pedagogical improvements Evaluate new and ongoing community sites/partnerships as suitable for student placements through community-engaged courses Ensure compliance with mandated safety procedures and protocols required by UW policy and/or school partners Primary responsibility for reporting to Seattle Public Schools Office of Community Partnerships on mandated UW student volunteer background check clearance Secondary support and coordination with the Office of Youth Programs and management of background checks through the Youth Programs Registration System (YPRS)
Student and Alumni Engagement (10%) Supervision and project management for hourly undergraduate and/or graduate student staff (approximately 1.5 FTE, three to four individuals) Implement and continually improve drop in peer advising program to support undergraduate engagement in service-learning and volunteerism Support cross-campus partnerships by participating in scholarship/fellowship reading and interview committees as requested Maintain interpersonal relationships with community-engaged students and CBO partner alumni in support of larger CELE Center constituent engagement efforts
Event Coordination (5%) Plan and coordinate ongoing training, networking, and recognition opportunities for community partner organizations Support the development of additional training and networking opportunities for faculty and students Coordinate special events related to service-learning, community engagement, and other community-based learning opportunities for students, including workshops, panels, site visits, or other programs. Collaborate with campus partners on related events as needed Organizational Culture and Committee Participation (5%) Participate in CELE Center, UAA, and other campus workgroups and committees as needed; Play a key role in developing and maintaining an internal organization culture consistent with Center values and strategic priorities. Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Minimum two years professional experience coordinating complex and detailed programs with positive outcomes Aptitude for developing collaborative relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and appropriately (through written word and public speaking) with varied stakeholders. Ability to take initiative in a team-based environment while simultaneously following through on independent projects. Creative problem solving skills, ability to balance a variety of time sensitive duties, and flexibility as priorities shift . Strong organizational skills, creativity, demonstrated attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and manage deadlines. Exhibit an appreciation of, sensitivity to, and a respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds. Understanding of educational inequities and the racial and socioeconomic disparities that exist in our communities and how those translate to higher education settings.
Preferred Qualifications Place-based relationships and network in the Seattle non-profit community. Professional experience managing volunteers/interns in a complex non-profit or government organization. Experience working with college students, community service programs, and/or service-learning pedagogy.
