The College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is one of the largest academic units on the UW Seattle campus, employing over 1400 tenure-track and research faculty, in 43 departments and centers, and generating an average $120 million dollars in sponsored research each year. The Physics Department offers service courses required by majors in departments such as Chemistry, Biology, Engineering and other colleges. Each quarter during the regular academic year approximately 1500 students enroll in the 100-level lecture courses and the accompanying labs. The Program Coordinator is the point of contact for these students and coordinates the efforts of ten instructors each quarter. The Program Coordinator reports to the Department Student Services Director and works closely with and supports the Chair of the Introductory Teaching Committee.
The Program Coordinator manages all aspects of the Physics 100-level classes such as coordinating exam logistics and serving students directly, including: informing students of program policies, including course requirements, adding students to courses or dropping them from course; exercising independent judgment in interpreting and applying rules and regulations; independently advising students regarding program content, policies, procedures and activities; recommending alternative courses of action; and having extensive involvement with students in carrying out 100-level program activities.
DUTIES:
Course management system set-up Sets up a Canvas Learning Managing System for each 100-level courses Sets up MyLab and Mastering assignment system for each 100-level course
Exam management Remind instructors of exam draft deadlines for printing Proofread exam drafts for non-physics content Send the exam drafts for printing Process Scantrons for multiple-choice questions and upload the scores on Canvas Maintain filing of exams after being administered Solicit special seat requests for exams from students and distribute exam seating assignments Fill out the testing agreement forms for students who require special accommodations granted by the DRS Maintain all DRS accommodation information for students. Seek out available space on campus and make room reservations for midterm exams for students with special accommodations (DRS accommodations) Coordinate delivery/pick up of exams taken at the DRS testing center in Mary Gates Hall if any
Course registration assistance Oversee registration for majors and non-majors for all 100-level classes, including add code authority. Monitor enrollment status of courses and make recommendations of opening more sections or closing sections with low enrollment. Coordinate transfers for the international and extension students for all 100-level Physics classes.
Other duties Provide counseling and program assistance for 125-150 students every week as it pertains to the 100-level courses. Request online course evaluation forms for 100 level courses. Secondary contact for all undergraduate majors and graduate students with respect to registration and TA duties. Administer and update hourly reader/grader ASE offers, including writing the offer letters. Direct the work of a student assistant. Prepare reports on student enrollments, TA assignments, grades and evaluations using local databases, SDB (central student database) and OIS database. Prepare quarterly Educational Assessment surveys for Department Chair. Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.
