Overview:
The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership provides meaningful co-curricular opportunities for students to engage in activities that cultivate involvement, leadership development, and self-exploration. These experiences and programs build community and connection, facilitate transition and belonging, and promote transformational learning.
As a member of the Student Engagement and Leadership team, the assistant director oversees student club and organization management and provides training for their advisors. They are responsible for managing operations for the Donald E. Bain Campus Center, Michaelhouse game room, and the performing arts spaces in Murphy Hall. The assistant director is also responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating student campus center managers and mascots.

Job responsibilities include:
Clubs and Organizations (60%)
- Responsible for oversight of all activities of clubs and organizations
- Help students establish new and continue to strengthen organizations through the recognition process
- Provide support to SGA recognized clubs and organizations (approximately 70 groups) including contract negotiation and budget planning
- Develop and implement new organization orientations and annual mandatory student organizations trainings. Important topics to include: event planning, budgeting, student org travel, and risk management
- Advise the SGA Finance Committee which oversees the club and organization budgets
- Help assure club and organization event success
- Assist with purchasing and contracts
- Ensure supervision
- Verify reservations
- Coordinate advisor annual training and ongoing training series each semester
- Develop and maintain written/online resources for advisors
- Advise Commuter Council and provide opportunities for commuting students' engagement
- Coordinate semesterly Involvement Fests
- Manage the Cardinal Hub
- Develop and implement student award and recognition activities including the Cardinal Awards
- Develop club conduct process with the Director of Student Conduct
Manage Student Spaces and Student Staff (30%)
- Supervise the daily operations of the Donald E. Bain Campus Center, game room, and performing arts spaces, including room reservations and access to spaces
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student staff including managers and Cardinal mascots
- Complete personnel paperwork and forms, including timesheets
- Manage reservations for Cardinal appearances
- Meet regularly with student employees
- Serve as the department's representative to the College's Office of Reservations and Events
Core Responsibilities (10%)
- Serve as a point of contact for students and their families
- Be able to address questions about event planning, budgeting, and College policies
- Serve as a campus resource, promote understanding of and engage campus in conversations related to engagement, belonging, and leadership
- Assist team with program planning, logistics, and staffing for departmental and divisional events and initiatives, such as New Student Orientation, Family Weekend, and Commencement
- Attend departmental and division meetings
- Participate on campus committees as directed
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Education / Experience:
Required Education and Experience:
- Master's Degree in Student Personnel Administration or related field
- At least 2 years of experience working in Higher Education with a demonstrated focus on student clubs and activities
Preferred:
- Experience in advisor training

Supervision of Employees:
- Direct supervision of student workers and graduate student interns
Work Hours:
