DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor-Student Affairs, the Assistant Vice Chancellor-Student Affairs (AVC-SA) provides overall leadership and direction for Student Affairs Case Management Services (SACMS), the Office of Student Conduct and the Assessment, Evaluation & Organizational Development (AEOD) units.
The AVC-SA co-leads, with an equity, inclusion and antiracist methodology, strategic collaborations with the Division of Undergraduate Education and the Undergraduate Colleges to further improve the Undergraduate Student Experience. In strategic partnership with the Division of Undergraduate Education, the AVC-SA partners with the Undergraduate College Student Affairs Teams to deliver measurable outcomes that improve the Undergraduate Student Experience through the co-creation and co-coordination of annual co-curricular programs and activities. Toward these goals, the AVC-SA will provide vice chancellor area coordination, leadership and liaise with offices in the ongoing support for historically marginalized student populations, and facilitate ongoing communication, information-sharing, program development, implementation, assessment and evaluation of identified partnership initiatives.
The AVC-SA partners with Students, UC San Diego Health, Campus Safety and the Student Affairs Leadership Team to ensure student-centeredness advances through the realization of the VCSA Strategic Commitments to Address Anti-Blackness and the implementation of the Core Values of the Student Affairs 2019-2024 Strategic Plan: Inclusivity, Equity, Personal Growth and Engagement, Well-Being, Accountability and Excellence.
Committed to equity and social justice, the AVC-SA provides consultation and recommendations regarding major campus-wide policies and procedures, goals and programs that promote the student experience and student development. Specifically, the AVC-SA coordinates the Student Affairs Monitor Team (SAMS), identifies improvement opportunities in student-facing policies, procedures and systems, and recommends improvements for administrative services that increase student satisfaction, inclusion, sense of belonging, and well-being.
As a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team, partner with VCSA, AVC-SRS, AVC-Student Life, AVC-Global Initiatives and AVC-Student Affairs Resource Management to create an engaged, inclusive, equitable, anti-racist workplace where Student Affairs professionals thrive.
This position may be eligible for a Hybrid flexible work arrangement, which could include a non-standard work schedule, and/or the ability to work off-site part of the time, upon approval of supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. **Minimum (6) years of progressive professional higher education experience within the area of residential life, student activities, student leadership programs, student conduct and behavior intervention, or related field with at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements. **Demonstrated experience and skill to routinely monitor production and quality of work being produced by staff and set performance standards, observing behavior, providing objective feedback, counseling, and implementing corrective action as needed to mediate disputes or otherwise help to resolve conflicts and to provide effective leadership/coaching/mentoring.
Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. **Demonstrated ability to bring together faculty, colleges and academic administration as well as campus administrators to address complex, student-oriented issues and tasks and provide for mutually-agreed-upon student needs.
Ability in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuade others, and lead. **Ability to identify, define, and evaluate problems, and to plan and develop appropriate long-term and immediate strategies and solutions. Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, an engaging and participative leadership style, and the ability to collaborate with multiple constituencies.
