This position coordinates the Center for Career Services program development and goal-setting efforts that align with the College’s Strategic Plan. The Director is responsible for the overall marketing of the Center through outreach to parents, students, alumni, recruiters, and other community members. The Director will have a deep commitment to and understanding of diversity – in all dimensions – as a force for academic and artistic excellence and as a deeply held commitment at the heart of the institutions’ mission.
The Director stays abreast of industry opportunities and standards through participation in Conferences and travel to recruiter sites (i.e. Siggraph, NACE, AICAD events). The Director works collaboratively with key constituencies including the Office of Academic Affairs, students, academic departments, employers, graduate schools, and alumni, supporting a comprehensive career development program and excellent job initial destination activities for students and alumni. The Director also serves as a member of the Student Life staff team and participates as requested in College-wide committees and events such as New Student Orientation, Open Houses, Family Weekend, Accepted Students Day and Commencement.
The successful incumbent will lead efforts to market the College and its students to current and potential employers, which includes a focus on inclusion, innovation, growth and professional development. By attracting a large number of prospective employers, the Center for Career Services will increase opportunities for quality jobs, internships, and professional development experiences for students and alumni. The Director will develop and manage relationships with potential employers attractive to and suited to the needs and interests of art and design students and alumni.
Keeping abreast of national and international economic and job market trends and career development practices for graduates and alumni, the Director will have ability to adjust and focus programs and employer relations strategies accordingly through focused research and industry trends analysis. The Director will have the ability to collect and report data on student and alumni career direction and success for international and domestic students. Additionally, the Director will advance the use of technology with Associate/Assistant Directors, and oversee information management and evaluation of cutting-edge technology for the Center for Career Services. The Director will have ability to support the development of student job search skills; provide career counseling on a wide range of career preparation issues; prepare and deliver presentations to student and alumni groups on topics of career preparation, advancement, and job trends; and provide resources for application to graduate programs, particularly those conferring the Master of Fine Arts degree.
The Director will assess the effectiveness of current services, programs, and events in line with the department’s commitment to providing a student-centered and user-friendly operation. The Director will develop, implement, and expand alumni resources and services and outreach to enhance graduates’ success in rapidly changing economic landscapes; supervise the development and delivery of career-related professional development programs and workshops for students (including a focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion topics and strategies); arrange on-campus recruitment and interview opportunities; and oversee the Career Center Web site.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the job:
Ability to diplomatically foster professional relationships with current and potential recruiters, faculty, and staff.
Documented history of successfully developing and advancing diversity and inclusion programs in Career Development. An understanding of best practices in recruitment and retention of underrepresented students.
Skill in developing assessments for measuring Career Center activities and successes related to program use by students and alumni and career destinations and advancement.
Professional enthusiasm to stay current with relevant information trends and technology through extensive research and reading and consultations with industry experts and counterparts in AICAD schools.
Market the Center’s programs and resources to students, alumni, recruiters, faculty, and parents so that they are aware and may effectively use/encourage the use of the services. Continually evaluate and report on the level of user satisfaction.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and ability to work with a variety of constituencies (students, faculty, alumni, employers, parents).
Knowledge of the principles of sound management and administration. Skills in developing and tracking action plans, schedules, and budgets.
Knowledge of and ability to effectively identify appropriate computer needs and technological resources.
Proven skills and abilities in training, evaluation, supervision, and development of Career Center staff for optimum functioning.
Bachelor’s Degree in student affairs, education, marketing, business administration, or related field.
5 years of significant management experience in career development/career services, student affairs, development, corporate college relations, related industry or environment.
5 years of supervisory experience or equivalent.
Higher Education professional experience.
Master’s Degree in higher education or a related area.
Knowledge of art/design education and/or employer/industry environments related to career services.
