Overview of Position

We are seeking a Career Specialist for assisting students developing employment search strategies, tools, and skills; introducing students to career development resources; providing opportunities for students to investigate career plans; and helping to educate the college community on current career trends.

This is a part-time, hourly position.

Examples of Duties

1. Manage drop-in career services
2. Provide individual and group assistance with resume, cover letter and job search skills preparation for students and alumni
3. Conduct outreach to potential speakers and employers, organize and facilitate group workshops and special events designed to increase awareness of career opportunities
4. Provide career advisement presence on campus
5. Incorporate social media and career advisement strategies through virtual and on-line resources such as LinkedIn, College Central Network and Focus 2
6. Maintain records and statistics on student success
7. Develop and implement career programming focused on specific trends in employment and/or highlighting opportunities geared to specific majors
8. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred in counseling, education, business or related discipline
2. Previous experience in career development, job placement, job placement and/or Human Resources Recruiting/Employment setting
3. Sensitivity to the needs of the student population of an urban community college
4. Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and interpersonally
5. Computer literate, Proficient in the use of on-line and social media communications
6. Must be able to work one evening per week and occasional Saturdays
