Building on the values and long-term success of the Bard Prison Initiative, the Bard Microcollege brings tuition-free, high-quality, liberal arts education to communities most often excluded from the university experience. The strength of the Microcollege rests in alliances between institutions that are conventionally separate from one another but have overlapping missions, common purpose, and shared core values. These partnerships create opportunities for academic success and disrupt traditional expectations about the kinds of students who can and will succeed in college. The community partner for Bard Micrcollege Holyoke is The Care Center, a community-based educational organization with a history of success in supporting young mothers to complete their high school equivalencies and continue on to college. A complement to the Center's enriched GED program and its Clemente Course in the Humanities, Bard Microcollege Holyoke opened in August 2016. The first Bard College Associate in Arts degrees were earned by students in May 2018.

The Program Coordinator for New and Graduating Students will work as part of a team led by the Program Director and including the Program Coordinator for Student Services. Specific responsibilities include planning the recruiting season, including events, and materials; organizing admissions sessions that include essay exam and interviews; assisting students with FAFSA and follow up; coordinating orientations; researching and building relationships with regional four-year colleges; helping students decide next steps through help with college and career research, internships, financial aid analysis (including loan rehabilitation), and applications; supporting day-to-day activities of the Microcollege as needed. Depending on qualifications and interests, opportunities for teaching may be included. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., with some flexibility.

Qualified candidates will share a commitment to the mission of the Microcollege and should be energetic, organized, and detail-oriented. The position requires excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work on tasks independently. Requirements include a bachelor's degree (advanced degree preferred) and experience in college-level counseling and academic advising.
