This position provides professional support for the SMART Learning Commons. Position responsibilities include coordinating communication and technology innovations for the SMART Learning Commons and the Learning Support Network. The position coordinates a variety of outreach activities including: orientation, classroom visits, and workshops. This position supervises student staff that support communication and outreach activities. This position is also responsible for coordinating assessment and data reporting.
This position works under the guidance of the Director of SMART Learning Commons/Learning Support Network to collaborate with many stakeholders across campus to promote, monitor, support, and implement learning support initiatives.
Responsibilities:
Communication Strategy and Implementation (30%)
- Create multi-media content that: provides accurate, timely, and customized information; offers proactive academic success strategies; reflects changing student needs; and promotes learning support services and events.
- Collaborate with cross-departmental colleagues to coordinate social media, direct email, content, and outreach strategies.
- Coordinate effective use of programs that support social media, web content, targeted email messages, and calendar/event management.
- Maintain the communication plan including evaluating current practices and identifying opportunities for improvement.
Program and Outreach Support (20%)
- Coordinate and support a variety of outreach activities including: orientation, classroom visits, and academic skill development workshops.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support department programs which can include: facilitating academic referral and retention follow-up, providing student appointments, presenting coaching/skill-building sessions, etc.
- Participate in and organize committees and work groups relating to student success.
Student Staff Supervision (15%)
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate student staff that support social media, video/multimedia projects, outreach activities & office projects.
- Collaborate with Tutor Coordinator to coordinate tutor participation at events.
- Facilitate training sessions as needed to support student employees.
Technology (15%)
- Act as an administrator/power-user for service support programs such as APLUS (advising retention/notes), Canvas (learning management), ExactTarget (customer relationship management), Drupal (web content), and Canva (social media).
- Train staff as needed to support effective use of service-related technology.
- Assess effectiveness, and propose changes that aim to support academic success.
- Coordinate workgroups that research, propose, or implement new technology.
Reporting, Assessment and Data-Driven Initiatives (10%)
- Utilize data reporting tools to provide information needed to support student services.
- Compile data from multiple sources for use in analyzing programs, identifying improvement opportunities, monitoring program requirements, and reporting.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create assessment plans, develop reports, and present information used to help shape support services.
Other Responsibilities (10%)
- Perform various other duties as assigned, in support of undergraduate education initiatives and programs.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree and two years work experience, or a combination of education and relevant work experience to total six years
- Experience with college readiness programs, academic coaching, or student services
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with web publishing, CRM systems, or social media technology
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects
