Carnegie Mellon University's Division of Student Affairs is searching for an Assistant Director of Finance. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing essential support by assisting with day-to-day operational oversight in support of departmental, divisional, and university financial policies. This role reports to the Director of Finance for Student Affairs and will work closely with the Director of Finance, two Senior Financial Managers for Student Affairs, and other members of the divisional finance team. This position sits within the Office of the Dean of Students.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Develops and evaluates fiscal controls and business practices and procedures to ensure standard processes
and resource utilization
Ensures compliance with policies and procedures
Provide training and other support to divisional colleagues on university financial information and budget practices
Manages financial volume, transaction processing, and accounting responsibilities
Oversee the development and management of budgets related to ongoing operations and special projects; Own key forecast processes within portfolio and work to understand, improve, manage, and report on the processes within the overall divisional planning process; Evaluate and assist in the formulation of budget policies, procedures, and guidelines and work to ensure compliance oversight; Understand the unit financials and engage with department heads through every planning cycle; Serve as the key planning liaison between analyst's departments and Director of Finance for the Division; Serve as support role in communicating the planning calendar and setting expectations with the units
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year end reports; Participate in the year-end closing process i.e. closing and deleting cost centers and reconciling accounts; Develop reports that contribute to the preparation and planning of presentations that will go to senior management; Analyze forecast changes as well as performance of actuals vs. budget/forecast is required
Directly or indirectly manage the work of Senior Financial Administrator and finance assistant(s) within the portfolio
Divisional project work including any special projects and delegate work that may be assigned by director; Serves as a member of the finance team supporting the overall mission of the college or organization; Serve as backup to departmental financial staff; Professional development; Serve as backup to director as required
Within a unit may oversee the preparation of proposals and administration of grants and contracts for the academic units. Coordinates with office of sponsored projects and accounts. Ensures compliance with government regulations, agency requirements and internal policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required
3-5 years of financial planning and/or analysis experience required
Or a combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge
