The Brother Mike’s Manager is a part-time, hourly position that oversees the operational and collaborative programming aspects of the Stonehill College campus bar, Brother Mike’s. This includes but is not limited to inventory control, student staff training and supervision, facility management, and revenue accounting. The Manager will work with other Student Engagement staff to ensure programming is provided during the operational hours of Brother Mike’s, which is in a space open to students of all ages. Brother Mike’s is open most Thursday nights in each semester, and various Friday or Saturdays each week. The goal is to have the space open two days per week, or as needed. The position will work approximately 19 hours a week. The Brother Mike’s Manager reports to the Associate Director for Campus Programming.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Bar Operation/Facility Management
- Orders and maintains all inventory.
- Monitors environment, manages student behavior, and maintains nightly operations log.
- Maintains all bar equipment and makes recommendations for new purchases.
- Develops and updates policies and procedures for the operation of Brother Mike’s.
- Gathers feedback from students and the community to modify services accordingly and appropriately.
- Ensures day-to-day compliance with all state and local laws and permit stipulations.
Revenue Accounting
- Manages all cash and credit card transactions and accounts for nightly profit/loss.
- Reports weekly on financial status.
- Makes deposits, keeps records/spreadsheets, and ensures appropriate account crediting.
- Manages assigned budget.
Student Staff Supervision
- Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates student staff members (Brother Mike’s bartenders), including payroll approval and coordinating educational trips when appropriate and feasible.
- Ensures that student bartenders are TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures by the Servers of Alcohol) trained.
- Organizes staff to provide a safe environment (doors, counter service, carding, cleanliness).
- Provides adequate staffing for efficient operations during events.
Programming and Event Planning
- Promote outreach and collaboration with student organizations, faculty, and College departments/offices for theme nights and special events.
- Works with various service providers to enhance programs and events.
- Communicates with Campus Police and Conferences and Events for event reservation details.
- Coordinates and oversees the marketing of Brother Mike’s and its events through advertising and social media.
Student Engagement Staff Member
- Attends Office staff meetings and others as assigned by the Associate Director and/or Director of Student Engagement.
- Attends trainings, retreats, and planning sessions as needed.
- Maintains a consistent weekly office schedule, adjusting hours with Brother Mike’s evening hours.
- Works nights and weekends, as required. Brother Mike’s is open every Thursday night (8 p.m.-12 a.m.) and most Friday or Saturday nights (9 p.m.-1 a.m.).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
A Bachelor’s degree, 1-3 years of bar/event management experience, and familiarity with Excel and social media outlets are required.
