The mission of the Office of Admissions, Student and Career Development is to identify, select and retain students by providing and facilitating comprehensive services that foster and enhance students' individual development and the achievement of their educational and professional goals.
The Opportunity
The Administrative Assistant III serves as the initial point of contact for current and new undergraduate students and their families, academic department representatives and interacts daily with college counselors. This person will coordinate key academic committees, and work closely with the Human Ecology Registrar's Office and the Sr. Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs.
The successful Administrative Assistant III will provide administrative aid to the unit Director for academic advising and career development and advising/counseling staff. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Overseeing and navigating various calendars and appointments for staff, meetings, and programs
- Coordinating and providing guidance for several college academic committees (Committee on Academic Status, Educational Policy Committee, Academic Integrity, Scholarship Committees)
- Assisting a range of unit programming (New Student Orientation, multicultural programs, and retention programs) and related event planning
- Monitoring both the student services and the Committee of Academic Status's electronic mailbox and handle inquiries and feedback
- Guide development and production of office publications and informational materials, including a weekly newsletter and departmental website updates/maintenance
- Assist career development staff with on-campus recruiting by working with Cornell Career Services, recruiters/employers, Human Ecology counselors, students, and alumni
- Maintain records database and generate related reports, as needed
- Assist office counselors advising Human Ecology student organizations
- Assist with multiple ongoing and occasional unit projects, events, and activities
- Work collaboratively and collaborate with team of administrative staff in admissions and related office functions
- Represent the office as a member of the College's Student Procedures and Record Keepers (SPARK) group to consider college academic policies and procedures that impact administrative offices across the college.
Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma, plus minimum 2 years work experience in office setting, or equivalent combination of experience and education
- Experienced in basic Microsoft Office programs (Word/Excel/Outlook). Aptitude and interest to learn various additional computer applications
- Must exhibit good judgment and patience; well-developed interpersonal, oral/written communication and customer service techniques
- Must be able to multitask while serving a dynamic group of counselors with a broad range of professional duties
- Must enjoy working with a diverse student body and faculty while exhibiting maturity, patience, and calm composure
- Aptitude to handle high pressure circumstances.
- Must be aware of all aspects of our operation, as well as university offices and personnel
- Assist in the planning for and actualization of important work during student orientation (orientation for students takes place in August and January)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate Degree, or 6 months to 1-year additional relevant training
- Experience with coordinating events and electronic management of information
- Working knowledge of PeopleSoft, Salesforce, Drupal, and web-based/CRM systems and survey development tools
