The School of Public Health at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Senior Executive Director of Recruitment, Enrollment and Student Experience.
The Senior Executive Director of Recruitment, Enrollment and Student Experience is an accomplished, visionary, collaborative, and innovative leader who provides strategic direction, management, and oversight for the development, implementation, and coordination of an integrated recruitment and retention plan for the School of Public Health (SPH). This position supervises all student-related activities and student success initiatives. The main responsibilities include serving as the SPH principal liaison to SUNY Downstate Admissions Office on all admissions matters as well as overseeing recruitment, enrollment, student services, advisement, and student communications for all School of Public Health academic programs.
As a member of the Dean's Senior Administration, the Senior Executive Director works closely with the Dean, Vice Dean, and Assistant Dean for Student Engagement and Success to set annual enrollment goals and to develop, implement, and oversee a strategic recruitment plan as well as a metric-based student success and retention program. The incumbent supervises the Assistant Director of Student Activities and Operations to ensure new students experience a smooth onboarding process and receive high-quality customer service. The incumbent also supervises recruitment staff to conduct student outreach activities, resolve problems, and track progress to ensure all prospective students experience a successful application and enrollment process. The Senior Executive Director represents the SPH on administrative committees and University initiatives and works with senior leaders across the University to continuously evaluate and improve the SPH student experience.
Overall job tasks include, but are not limited to:
Oversees admissions and enrollment for both Brooklyn and Manhattan campuses.
Develops and implements strategic recruitment plans and provides leadership in achieving the SPH enrollment goals.
Collaborates with both University and SPH leadership to identify additional market segments, partners, and University-wide programs and initiatives for targeted recruitment.
Plans and directs program information sessions on campus and at locations in target markets, involving key administrators, faculty, alumni, and students where appropriate.
Develops and directs all outreach efforts to actively promote, attract, and enroll international students.
Supervises staff in the coordination and execution of recruitment events.
Creates and implements integrated, innovative, and cost-effective programs that will lead to a diverse pool of qualified students and increased enrollment.
Analyzes market conditions and trends in public health and higher education admissions and develops/adjusts recruitment strategies accordingly.
Coordinates admissions marketing initiatives and contributes to the development of an institutional marketing plan.
Develops new partnerships with all levels of the University and engages academic and community partners to build effective relationships and to communicate recruitment strategies and actions.
Explores and enhances the strategic use of scholarships and financial aid in the recruitment efforts.
Leads as well as provides effective communication, guidance, and resources to the SPH Recruitment Team.
Serves as SPH principal liaison to SUNY Downstate Admissions Office.
Serves as a central coordinator of policy and implementation of SPH admissions activities, including the SPH Committee for Admissions and the SPH Doctoral Committee. Resolves all admissions issues in a timely manner.
Oversees the admissions process for all applicants and provides leadership in the development of all SPH admissions literature, marketing, and advertising materials.
Develops, establishes, and continuously improves policies and procedures for obtaining maximum productivity from the University admissions system and SOPHAS.
Supervises Assistant Director of Student Activities and Operations on the new student onboarding process and student services.
Develops a database and tracking mechanism to collect, analyze, and monitor current and historical SPH enrollment data; ensures consistent data collection and reporting to meet immediate and long-range University objectives.
Assists with data reporting and enrollment projection assignments.
Student Support Services
Collaborates with campus and community partners to maintain student wellness, degree completion, success and retention, and graduate outcomes.
Oversees public health student events and activities.
Serves on the Committee on Student Evaluation, Promotion, and Honors (SEPH).
Manages student grievance procedures. Assists Dean, Vice Dean, and Assistant Dean for Student Engagement and Success in the resolution of student academic issues and interacts with all appropriate University constituents relevant to grievances.
Complies with and understands the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Supervises and manages the scheduling of courses and classrooms.
Alumni and Career Services
Designs, implements, evaluates, and provides continuous quality improvement of School-wide career and professional development programs for students.
Develops, coordinates, and evaluates alumni engagement activities and maintains a current database of graduates.
Supports the SPH Alumni Network and coordinates alumni engagement activities in collaboration with the Alumni Coordinator.
Oversees the conduct of periodic alumni surveys.
Supervises Career and Alumni Relations staff who will assist with activities described above.
Other related duties and special projects as needed.
Master’s Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent education, training, or work experience at a level which equates to an advanced degree with significant post-secondary enrollment experience.
5+ years of supervisory experience.
Demonstrated understanding in enrollment and retention management services; experience in the areas of academic support/advising and student success programs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present to and respond to questions from students, faculty, staff, administration or the general public.
Ability to quickly, but strategically, set priorities and map direction on concurrent fronts.
Possesses and utilizes managerial and interpersonal skills of negotiation, conflict resolution, active listening, and team leadership; demonstrated commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and access.
Strong attention to detail.
Doctorate degree from an accredited institution.
Healthcare degree/training or experience in the healthcare industry preferred although not required.
Experience with the School of Public Health Association Service (SOPHAS).
Experience working with students, faculty, and staff of diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Familiarity with the use of mainstream communication platforms.
Experience gathering data, analyzing trends, and writing reports.
Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies, which may include national educational marketing, strategy creation and implementation, public speaking and presentation skills, organizational and process management, staff supervision and development.
