Job Description:
The TRIO Upward Bound program is a federally funded grant that operates within the Student Affairs Division of Anoka-Ramsey Community College. Upward Bound provides fundamental support to high school students in their preparation for college entrance. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to develop the skills and motivation necessary to complete a program of secondary education and increase the rate at which traditionally underserved populations enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
To accomplish the goals and objectives of the program, the Upward Bound Advisor manages a caseload of students at one or more of our target schools and provides academic advising, college/career exploration opportunities and social/emotional support to participants in the program. The program structure includes daily tutoring on-site at the target high schools, for this position Mora & Braham High School, occasional Saturday programming with all participants, and a six-week summer program.
The primary office location will be Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Cambridge Campus and the Advisor will travel to the high schools Monday-Thursday in the afternoon to oversee afterschool study sessions during the academic year. There will be potential opportunity for remote work in this position throughout the year.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to motivate and empower low-income and first-generation students and have an understanding of the barriers faced by underserved populations.
- Demonstrated commitment and success working in a diverse multi-cultural and multi-racial community.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing equitable and inclusive programming to meet student needs.
- Interpersonal and communication skills, including listening, speaking, writing and the ability to interact professionally with diverse populations in a positive, courteous, and helpful manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and work independently.
- Bachelor's degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with or knowledge of TRIO programs or other educational opportunity programs
- Knowledge of high school graduation requirements
- Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize work with competing priorities
Other Requirements:
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
