Potomac State College (WVU Keyser), part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, located in Keyser, WV is seeking applications for a Residence Hall Coordinator & Assistant Soccer Coach.
The Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC) is a full-time, 12-month, live-in professional staff member responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of one or more residence halls and serve as an assistant coach to the men’s and women’s soccer teams. The RHC supervises a staff of 7-12 paraprofessional resident assistants. The RHC will provide guidance for the emotional, intellectual, physical, occupational and social development of students. The RHC will develop a programming model for their hall that contributes to the mission and goals of Potomac State College with a focus on customer service towards the students. The RHC is available 24 hours a day during the academic year, with evening and weekend work required.

What you'll do:
Manage Administrative Functions of the Department
Participate in weekly Residence Life meetings and other campus meetings as needed. Coordinate resident move-in and move-out processes each semester. Work with the Housing Coordinator and RAs to verify monthly occupancy reports for the residence halls. Approve all room changes within the hall and maintain all related records, including room change forms and hall rosters. Perform key inventory after closing each semester. Maintain student-staff keys to ensure that all building/office keys are kept secure. Ensure the completing and ongoing tracking of room condition reports. Co-manage, with other RHCs, the main desk area and common spaces in the residence halls. Participate in emergency on-call rotation to serve as the primary contact person for student staff, police, and college administration during non-office hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Represent the department by serving on campus committees and presenting at admissions recruitment and orientation events. Participate in summer RHC training and other professional development opportunities throughout the year.
Supervision of Student Staff
Assist in RA selection and training processes each semester. Create and manage RA duty schedule. Lead weekly staff meetings. Monitor individual RA job performance through bi-weekly 1 on 1 meetings. Develop and monitor RA programming model based on resident needs each semester. Plan and organize on-going staff training and development sessions. Conduct end of semester performance evaluations.
Facility Oversight
Conduct regular building rounds to identify maintenance and housekeeping needs of hall(s). Coordinate the reporting, tracking, and follow-up of student work order process. Collaborate with housekeepers and maintenance staff to ensure that issues are addressed in a timely manner. Perform monthly safety checks to ensure that all building safety measures are functional. Follow up on building damage issues as appropriate. Work with Housing Coordinator and Conference Services Coordinator to prepare for the arrival and departure of summer conference groups.
Student Conduct
Review incident reports in Advocate and police reports on a daily basis. Hold student conduct meetings to determine responsibility during an incident. Complete appropriate documentation regarding conduct findings and distribute to appropriate parties. Follow up with any sanctions handed out to students. Conduct roommate mediations and other problem solving meetings among residents. Collaborate with Student Conduct office as appropriate.
Education, Leadership, and Programming
Teach one section of WVU 191 college orientation course during the fall semester. Provide academic counseling to students with multiple mid-terms and students placed on academic suspension after the fall semester. Oversee in-hall and campus-wide programming to meet the goals of Residence Life and PSC. Collaborate with faculty and other campus partners to provide educational and personal development programming in the halls. Advise student groups in their programming efforts. Use University-issued procurement card to purchase programming supplies and other necessary items for the hall. Maintain updated hall programming budget.
Coaching Duties – Men’s & Women’s Soccer
Recruiting: Recruit student-athletes that will fit well within the mission of WVU Potomac State College, contribute to the campus as a whole, and meet roster requirement goals.
Retention of Student-Athletes: Ensure that student-athletes stay at the institution during their athletic eligibility.
Academic responsibilities: Assist in progressing student-athletes to graduation. Practice/Conditioning: Provide a year-round practice program that adheres to the rules set forth by NJCAA.
Discipline: Have a set of rules governing your team’s behavior and team life lessons through your sport. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree in related field, such as counseling, social work, education, etc. preferred. Appropriate combination of education and experience that provides necessary skills and abilities may be considered in lieu of degree.
2-3 years - Residence hall supervision preferred; work with students required. Experience should include personnel management, activity planning, team building, diversity, and budget management.
Physical ability to walk through the halls, walk around campus between buildings, participate in activities & sports, and respond to crisis situations.
Ability to read, write, analyze reports & prepare documents in English.
Thorough working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, & sentence structure.
Ability to speak before groups.
Demonstrated advising and counseling skills.
Ability to relate to diverse populations and connect with individuals in various roles: students, staff, faculty, parents, etc.
Strong computer skills required and the ability to learn and effectively use various software such as Microsoft Office, Star Rez, Advocate, MyTime, etc.
Knowledge of student development & learning.
Ability to develop and implement programming that meets student needs & interests.
Ability to build teams and develop strong community spirit.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize complex situations toward positive outcomes.
