The LEAD (Leadership, Engagement, Advising and Development) Center, a department in the Division of Student Affairs, is at the center of student life at UC Berkeley. This campus department is responsible for facilitating leadership development among our students, supporting students as they build community on campus, and encouraging student involvement and engagement within the campus community. As a team of dedicated and committed student affairs professionals, the LEAD Center promotes a student-centered learning environment by advising and empowering students to pursue their co-curricular interests, to cultivate their leadership skills, and to develop holistically. The LEAD Center provides services and resources focused on furthering students' leadership abilities as well as personal and professional development-hence positively impacting the holistic learning and development of all UC Berkeley students. More specifically, the LEAD Center provides advising and leadership development opportunities to student groups, including 1,000+ registered student organizations (RSOs), over 35 student publications, 60+ recognized fraternities and sororities, student government, SUPERB (the campus programming board), the recruitment and retention centers, various student cooperative communities, and campus-wide student leadership development and training initiatives and programs.
Fraternities and Sororities (CalGreeks Community)The CalGreeks Community at the University of California, Berkeley is made up of 60+ fraternities and sororities, 4 governing councils (IFC, NPC, MCGC, and NPHC), and CalGreeks affinity groups (Greeks Against Sexual Assault, CalGreeks Alcohol Taskforce, etc.). Over 8% of undergraduate students belong to fraternities and sororities and most of the students live in privately-owned fraternity and sorority houses off-campus.
The Student Life & Development Specialist 3 - Fraternity & Sorority Life works as part of the Fraternity & Sorority Life team to provide overall support to the CalGreeks Community. This position provides ongoing transformational advising services to some of the four governing councils (Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Panhellenic Council) and their respective chapters. Advising includes organizational development, leadership, budget management, programming, recruitment, risk management, officer transitions, and ethical decision making and will also assist individuals and chapters in addressing problems related to personal, academic, and organizational needs. Additionally, this position provides advising to at least one of the CalGreeks affinity groups (Greeks Against Sexual Assault (GASA), CalGreeks Alcohol Taskforce (CAT), etc.). Lastly, this position will develop, implement, and coordinate various fraternity and sorority-wide leadership and educational programs.

Responsibilities
Advising, Programming, and Services - Provides advising to 60+ fraternity and sorority chapters, 4 governing councils, and fraternity and sorority affinity groups -specifically advising at least 1 governing council and their related chapters and at least 1 affinity group.
- Advises councils, chapters, and affinity groups - utilizing student development theories, counseling practices, and leadership development - on organizational development, conflict resolution, event planning, programming, recruitment, financial management, fundraising, officer transitions, risk management, neighbor relations, and campus and community outreach.
- Attends weekly council meetings and attends, as needed, additional meetings such as judicial hearings, mediations, city meetings, etc.
- Assists in the management of council finances and budgeting.
- Provides historical and institutional knowledge especially during council leadership transitions.
- Advocates for diverse and underrepresented communities.
- Conducts outreach to students and encourages the use of campus programs and services.
- Refers students and organizations to appropriate resources.
- Works closely with other LEAD Center staff and various campus partners to improve and expand existing programs and to develop additional programming and services using needs assessment, research of best practices, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
- Provides information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures, and regulations that ensure student success and enhance community.
Fraternity and Sorority Administration - Creates community wide fraternity and sorority programs, initiatives, and services that foster friendship, leadership, scholarship, and service.
- Manages the fraternity and sorority registration and recognition process.
- Develops and coordinates risk management training each semester.
- Develops and coordinates leadership training and development programs for the CalGreeks community.
- Coordinates the recognition of fraternity and sorority students and organizations.
- Evaluates programming using best practice evaluation processes.
- Measures student learning outcomes associated with leadership development efforts.
- Researches best practices, materials and new initiatives. With the Director, develops plans and goals for new or revised leadership programs, services, policies and practices that enhance Greek community and student culture.
Campus Partnerships, Committees, and Collaboration - Responsible for identifying, creating, and maintaining collaborative relationships with campus and community stakeholders relevant to the work of the position.
- Specifically, Student Union Event Services, Risk Management, Government & Community Relations, Tang Center - Party[email protected], Student Conduct, etc.
- Specifically, the City of Berkeley, Berkeley Police Department, Berkeley Fire Department, Inter/National Fraternity and Sorority Organizations, etc.
- Creates and establishes ongoing methods for engaging campus partners in the advising, leadership development, and programming, of student communities.
- Advocates for students and their co-curricular experience through assessment, analytics, and student learning outcomes.
- Serves in various capacities on departmental and divisional committees to educate and advocate on behalf of their advising areas as well as to support the continuous growth and effectiveness of the LEAD Center, the ASUC Student Union, and the Division of Student Affairs.
- Develops and maintains effective cross-functional partnerships within the LEAD Center to foster collaboration between the ASUC, the Graduate Assembly, and student organizations.
Professional Development - Stays current on literature, innovations, and developments related to student development and student groups, especially with fraternities and sororities.
- Attends pertinent conferences and conventions and present information for shared knowledge.
- Participates on department and campus committees, programs, and projects, as assigned.
- Remains knowledgeable on best practices related to advising fraternities and sororities.

Required Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience in advising fraternities and sororities including local, regional, inter/national, and culturally-based organizations.
- Familiar with fraternity and sorority best practices and current trends.
- Experience working with Interfraternity Council (IFC) and chapters, Multicultural Greek Council (MCGC) and chapters, National Panhellenic Council (NPC) and chapters, or National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and chapters.
- Thorough knowledge and experience in advising and counseling techniques and student leadership/student development theory and practice.
- Skills in developing learning outcomes and assessing student learning and development.
- Skills in designing, implementing, and facilitating training, retreats, workshops, and programs.
- Ability to effectively deliver training, retreats, workshops, and programs.
- Ability to mediate conflict, problem-solve, and respond appropriately to student concerns.
- Ability to effectively serve and understand issues of underrepresented students and their experiences.
- Exceptional organizational and verbal/written communication skills, including the ability to use diplomacy/discretion.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work both collaboratively and independently with students, staff, faculty, and the public.
- Ability to interact at all levels with campus and community constituents and stakeholders with a high level of political acumen.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and projects well in a fast paced, politically charged environment.
- Demonstrate leadership experience by creating cross-campus partnerships and collaborations with other colleagues.

Education - Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Education / Training - Master's degree strongly preferred in college student affairs, counseling, education, and/or equivalent training or experience.
- Experience advising students in a higher education environment or working for an international/national fraternity or sorority preferred.
- Ideally undergraduate membership in a fraternity/sorority.
Salary & Benefits
- This is a full-time (40 hours/week), career position, and eligible for full UC benefits.
- This is an exempt, monthly paid position. The annual salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $70,000.00 to $73,000.00.
