Biotech NavigatorAbout the OpportunityPosition Summary:Under the leadership of the PI, the Biotech Navigator will play a lead role in the implementation of the Associates to Masters (A2M) Pathway Program between Northeastern University and Middlesex Community College (MCC) with the goal to create a cohesive A2M scholars cohort and a highly-supportive learner experience. This position also works closely with other departments across the University and at Middlesex, such as the Registrar, Admissions, Financial Aid, Enrollment Management, and Learner Services to coordinate these resources for the benefit of A2M scholars. The Biotech Navigator will split their time between Northeastern's campus (~3 days/week) and Middlesex's campus (~2 days/week) to provide academic and organizational supports to students; enhance communication between the colleges, advisors and faculty to improve student retention; and assist in transitioning of students from one college to the next in the A2M pathway. The Biotech Navigator will work closely with the STEM Pathways Center at MCC to provide these services. Examples of activities to be coordinated and offered include bridge programs, mentoring, tutoring, career coaching, and access to information on research, internship, employment and transfer opportunities. The Biotech Navigator will provide academic guidance to students concerning co-ops and internships, course selection, registration, preparation for graduation, and more. The Biotech Navigator will also assist students with career exploration, resume preparation, and interview preparation for research and internship opportunities, and assist with the transfer process from MCC to Northeastern. The Biotech Navigator serves as a consistent and persistent mentor and guide throughout students' journey from A2M, building the student community.
Responsibilities:
50% Academic and Student Support Actively manage the A2M scholars from point of admission through program completion, with a focus on persistence and retention. Responsibilities include:
- Substantively engage with all A2M scholars in a routine and consistent manner each term to ensure a high-touch, supportive experience
- Connect with students using multiple modalities and in ways tailored to student preferences for communication in order to support student needs on student terms
- Work with A2M Scholars to create individual degree plans and to maximize transfer credit toward degree completion.
- As a subject matter expert, develop and consistently refine personalized, customized professional development plans responsive to articulated academic and career goals, skills, and abilities.
- Administer and interpret career assessments to inform professional development plans.
- Help students build a personal network
- Support interdisciplinary experiences for students across colleges and Global Network campuses
- Match learners with experiential opportunities to strengthen their skills, build authentic experience, and apply their learning in collaboration with employers
- Facilitate campus-based and virtual skills workshops, events, meet-ups, industry mentors, etc. to help students meet their goals.
- Monitor student progress through adherence to the established communication and contact plan
- Engage in effective practices in academic and career advising, including the proactive use of data sources and technology to support learner services including tools such as Salesforce, Burning Glass, DARS, Civitas and similar platforms
- Advocate for students while enforcing institutional policies and regulations
- Respond to student inquiries from point of contact to resolution; follow up on referral
- Process in a timely fashion official paperwork related to students' academic study including changes of major, transfer credit, petitions to amend degree requirements and petitions to graduate
- Liaise between the student and the University community working collegially with other offices and departments to ensure student service functions are performed in an efficient and consistent manner
- Make appropriate referrals to on campus and off campus services as appropriate to student need
- Track students who become academically inactive; reach out to these students to encourage resumption of studies
25% Academic Operations - Monitor academic program operations and implement MCC, CPS and COS policies and procedures to support MCC, CPS and COS mission, vision and goals.
- Negotiate and collaborate with other departments, as well external recruiters, to deliver a strong student experience.
- Coordinate with advising and program managers to develop schedules for students. Work with MCC and CPS enrollment management, academic advising, and financial aid to track applications, admits, and enrollments to determine which courses will run term-to-term.
- Gather and analyze enrollment statistics and assist with scheduling decisions. Monitor enrollment goals, class sizes, and cancellations.
25% Program Assessment - Assist in the development and implementation of A2M high-impact practices leading to measurable outcomes and standards for the A2M program.
- In coordination with the research team and evaluator, monitor and evaluate program and recommend changes to enhance program effectiveness, both academically and operationally.
- Produce reports and analysis of student satisfaction, program retention and completion, and faculty performance.
- Manage student and faculty concerns.
- Maintain regular communication in matters regarding student or faculty concerns from start to resolution between MCC, CPS and COS.
- Maintain up-to-date notes and record keeping of each student meeting including tracking of student academic progress and outcomes
- Assess, collect and report student data as they pertain to student persistence, retention and satisfaction
- Participate in unit or College assessment efforts, including the development of benchmarks for progress
- Maintain consistency and compliance within ADA, FERPA, SEVIS, and other state, federal, MCC, University and College of Professional Studies guidelines
Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferable, in an academic discipline with a minimum of three years administrative experience in program management or academic advising in a two- or four-year college setting or related business environment. Strong leadership and effective communication skills are a must. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to diverse constituencies. Effective administrative, supervisory, and organizational skills and evidence of excellent decision-making skills are required. This position requires academic advising experience and a demonstrated ability to manage rapidly evolving priorities. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the unique needs of non-traditional and adult learners and show strong commitment to continuing education. The successful candidate will have a passion for educating and supporting non-traditional students in a higher education environment, demonstrated sensitivity to their needs, and knowledge of professional development and career advising best practices. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed is required. Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint is required. The successful candidate should be/have:
- General understanding of Biotechnology industry and/or willingness to learn
- Commitment to increasing diversity in STEM fields;

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with demonstrated ability and comfort to handle multiple tasks and projects;
- Student-centered and have a strong sense of responsibility for student success and approaches to student retention and support;

- Excellent interpersonal, writing and presentation skills; foreign language skills a plus;
- Able to work collaboratively and independently in a rapidly changing and constantly evolving professional environment;
- Initiative to exercise sharp critical thinking skills and sound judgment to problem solve independently within organizational guidelines and policies;
- Innovative and creative in coming up with ideas to improve student services and enhance processes and procedures;
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite tools products; familiarity with degree audit reporting, CRM platforms, career services applications, and similar systems a plus.
